Lexus Korea held the ‘2022 Lexus Skill Contest’ on the 26th at the Toyota Training Center in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, a competition aimed at selecting the best service talent.

The Lexus Skill Contest is an opportunity to enhance the capabilities of technicians and service advisors who interact with customers in service centers nationwide, as well as a competition to select the finest service talent. Since its inception in 2002, the Skill Contest has become a foundation for realizing customer satisfaction in both product and service areas. Since 2013, the Toyota and Lexus brands have alternated hosting the contest biannually.

This year, 41 dealer winners selected from eight Lexus dealers participated in skill contests across six categories: service advisors, general maintenance, bodywork, painting, parts, and customer support.

Contestants engaged in fierce competition, including a written exam evaluating theoretical knowledge, role-playing a scenario involving customer parts orders using the electric vehicle model ‘UX 300e,’ and demonstrating the intake process using the plug-in hybrid model ‘NX 450h+,’ all reminiscent of actual service settings.

This year’s contest also welcomed students and faculty from partner universities involved in the automotive talent development program ‘T-TEP (Toyota-Technical Experience Program),’ providing them with a firsthand experience of the automotive industry.

As an event for all dealers, the entire contest and awards ceremony were live-streamed using a metaverse platform, allowing dealer employees across the nation and family members of the contestants to cheer and celebrate online.

The six winners, one from each category, will have their names recorded as the 2022 champions in the ‘Hall of Fame’ at the Toyota Training Center, showcasing the history of the ‘Lexus Service Champion.’

Nobuyuki Takemura, President of Lexus Korea, stated, “The Skill Contest serves as a foundation for nurturing talent in the service field; this year, it focused on the service processes for Lexus electrified vehicles. We aim to do our best to enhance the capabilities of our service staff to ensure the happiness of every customer.”

Based on continuous talent development, Lexus has been recognized by customers, securing first place in the import car category for ‘After-Sales Satisfaction’ for four consecutive years from 2019 to 2022 in the ‘Consumer Insight Automotive Planning Survey’ (2022 tied for 1st).
