On the afternoon of the 11th, Renault Korea Motors held a press briefing in Gangnam, Seoul, featuring the first visit of Luca de Meo, Chairman and CEO of the Renault Group. During the event, he announced a new strategy for the Korean market and also unveiled a concept video of another new car that Renault Korea is developing, aiming for a 2025 launch.

In the press briefing, Chairman Luca de Meo stated, “We need to firmly re-establish our position in Korea,” explaining that this is related to the Renault Group’s ongoing RENAULUTION plan. He emphasized that the core of RENAULUTION is shifting from a sales volume focus to concentrating all group capabilities on value creation.

He continued, saying, “To start anew in Korea, we have established several principles.” He explained that these include providing good products and services in the Korean market to achieve customer satisfaction and enhancing profitability and competitiveness according to the Renault Group’s basic principles.

Chairman Luca de Meo highlighted the need to give Renault Korea Motors a new identity, mentioning that the recent change of name to Renault Korea Motors reflects the Renault Group’s aspirations for the Korean market. While Renault Korea Motors has already ranked first in several customer satisfaction surveys, he promised to accelerate the introduction of new customer services to improve customer satisfaction even further.

Regarding Renault Korea Motors’ new vehicle plans, he mentioned the upcoming D-segment (mid-size) hybrid vehicle scheduled for launch in 2024, which is being developed in collaboration with Geely Group based on the latest Volvo platform.

He also revealed that they are exploring plans for establishing a core export base for mid- to large-sized vehicles in Korea. However, he emphasized that it is essential to confirm Renault Korea Motors’ capabilities and ensure appropriate conditions for establishing an export base in Korea.

Chairman Luca de Meo added that this could lead to investments worth hundreds of millions of euros in Korea over the next six years.

Meanwhile, during the press briefing, a concept video of another hybrid new car being developed by Renault Korea Motors, aimed for a 2025 launch, was also revealed. Through this video, Renault Korea Motors hinted that the new platform-based vehicle under development by domestic researchers will be a coupe-style SUV.
