Porsche has set a new lap time record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife with the new 911 GT3 RS. Porsche brand ambassador York Bergmeister recorded a lap time of 6 minutes 49.328 seconds, which is 10.6 seconds faster than the current 911 GT3, on the 20.8 km Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit. This record was achieved with the participation of an official timing observer.

The new 911 GT3 RS is designed without compromise for maximum performance. With a performance output of up to 386 kW (525 hp) and road-legal capabilities, the 911 GT3 RS utilizes motorsport technology and concepts to the fullest. In addition to the intelligent lightweight structure and high-revving naturally aspirated engine with racing DNA, the cooling and aerodynamic structures distinctly reflect its motorsport lineage. At 285 km/h, the 911 GT3 RS achieves a downforce of 860 kg, three times that of the 911 GT3.

Andreas Preuninger, Vice President of the GT Line, stated, “The 911 GT3 RS has proven its absolute excellence on the track through this record,” adding that, “Considering the strong headwinds on the Dottinger Höhe straight and the cold asphalt temperatures which are far from ideal conditions, I am satisfied with this lap time.” He also noted, “The 911 GT3 RS is setting new standards in aerodynamics and chassis, and has combined so many motorsport elements in a road-going vehicle like never before.”

The 911 GT3 RS equipped with the Weissach package offers optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires (front 275/35R 20, rear 335/30 R21). The new 911 GT3 RS completed the course in 6 minutes 44.848 seconds based on previous, shorter lap standards.

Bergmeister stated, “Although the strong winds affected the car’s downforce, I am satisfied with this lap time record,” emphasizing that, “The 911 GT3 RS is unparalleled in high-speed sections and is undoubtedly a top-class racing car.” He added, “The 911 GT3 RS sets new standards in braking, and most importantly, the fast laps on the Nordschleife amplify the joy of driving the 911 GT3 RS.”

Frank Moser, Vice President of the 911 and 718 model line, remarked, “I am really proud of the team’s achievements through the development and testing process of the new 911 GT3 RS,” stating that, “York Bergmeister, while maximizing the vehicle’s potential, has once again demonstrated that the rear-engine layout of the 911 is the most suitable for high-performance sports cars.”
