“The Ultifi platform is the platform that connects communication between vehicles,” said Brian McMurray, President of GM Technical Center Korea.

The Korea Automobile Journalists Association held an interview with Brian McMurray at the Daegu International Future Mobility Expo on the 28th at EXCO.

Brian McMurray joined GM in 1997 and has conducted research and development in global operations in the USA, Canada, and China. In 2019, he was appointed Vice President of the Korean GM research and development corporation and took office as President of GM Technical Center Korea on June 1, 2022.

During the interview, McMurray emphasized, “Communication between vehicles is crucial for autonomous driving,” and explained, “The Ultifi platform will play an important role in the age of autonomy.” The Ultifi platform is a cloud-based software platform developed by GM that is easily accessible through a smartphone application.

McMurray described the Ultifi platform as “the core platform that connects vehicle to vehicle, vehicle to infrastructure, and emergency systems.” As urban traffic congestion exacerbates in the era of autonomous driving, the most critical technology will be communication technology between things. He predicts that GM’s software platform, Ultifi, will play a significant role at the center of autonomous driving. He also pointed out, “In the case of Korea, a well-established 5G communication network will enable a swift transition into the era of autonomous driving.”

Additionally, McMurray spoke about Cadillac’s driving assistance system, Ultra Cruise, stating, “Our top priority is safety,” and “We will not release it until it reacts faster than a human and operates accurately, under the premise that there is no risk.”
