BMW has unveiled the ‘New XM’, the brand’s first-ever M-exclusive high-performance SAV.

The BMW New XM is the first M-exclusive model launched by BMW M, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year since the legendary sports coupe M1 was introduced in 1978. It reinterprets the concept of a high-performance SAV while offering unparalleled M emotions through its design reminiscent of the M1, a newly developed M hybrid drive system, and an interior that exudes an advanced yet luxurious atmosphere.

The M hybrid system of the New XM intelligently controls the interaction between the engine and the motor, delivering extreme M driving performance in all driving situations. With a high-revving V8 gasoline engine utilizing new M TwinPower Turbo technology and an electric motor, it achieves a maximum output of 653 horsepower and maximum torque of 81.6kg·m, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds.

The New XM is equipped with a high-voltage battery with a capacity of 25.7kWh, enabling it to travel up to 88 km purely on electric power according to WLTP standards, with a top speed of 140 km/h in electric mode.

The BMW IconicSound Electric, jointly developed by the BMW Group and film score composer Hans Zimmer, provides driving sounds that match the electric motor’s power delivery. The unique electrical driving sound of M delivers vibrant feedback in response to the accelerator pedal operation during electric mode driving. When driving in hybrid mode and selecting sport or sport plus modes, boost sound is provided for a more vivid sensation of electric power delivery.

The exterior design of the BMW New XM combines the proportions of a modern SAV with robust contours, a dynamic silhouette, exclusive M design elements, and unique accents, creating a special atmosphere.

The separated headlights at the front, with a gold trim and contour lighting reflected in the BMW kidney grille, harmonize with large air intakes to express the New XM’s powerful driving performance. The gold accent band running along the side evokes the black strip of the M1, while the embossed BMW logo on the rear windshield and the sculptural rear lights made of louver structure create a classic atmosphere.

The distinctive and special atmosphere of the New XM’s exterior continues into the interior. The front seats come standard with M multifunction seats, knee pads, and an M leather steering wheel to support dynamic driving, while the BMW Curved Display and BMW Head-Up Display feature M-exclusive graphics to deliver a differentiated feel.

The rear seats offer a spaciousness, high-quality materials, and impressive design, forming the M-exclusive lounge. The specially designed seat cushions provide a high level of comfort for passengers, while the 3D prism structure headliner features 100 LED lights to create a unique atmosphere. Additionally, four different trims for customized interiors and a new vintage leather option for dashboards and upper door panels are available as options.

The New XM comes standard with ambient lighting, 4-zone air conditioning, a Harman Kardon surround sound system, and a travel & comfort system, while a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with 1500 watts of output is available as an option.

The sophisticated chassis system, developed with M expertise, provides a wide range of balance between the dynamics unique to M models and superior ride comfort. Driving-related elements can be directly specified through the M setting menu, ensuring the best handling across various environments from city streets to highways through the integrated powertrain and chassis systems.

Additionally, an electronically controlled Adaptive M Suspension Professional and active roll stabilization with a 48-volt electric motor are standard, while the Integral Active Steering feature is the first for BMW M models to come as standard.

The BMW New XM is equipped with the latest M-exclusive iDrive and BMW Live Cockpit Professional. BMW Live Cockpit Professional consists of a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display integrated into the BMW Curved Display, optimized for touch control and gesture operation. The continuously upgraded BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant allows drivers to engage in natural language conversations with iDrive.

The BMW Digital Key Plus enhances security through a broad-band wireless technology, allowing drivers to lock or unlock the car doors just by carrying an Apple iPhone, without any special operation. Additionally, functions designed for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, personalized features based on BMW ID, and an eSIM function for 5G mobile technology are also available.

Meanwhile, the BMW New XM is expected to officially launch in the domestic market in spring 2023.
