The Korean Automobile Journalists Association announced on the 6th that it has selected the ‘New Renault Koleos’ as the Car of the Month for August 2024.
The Car of the Year Selection Committee, under the association, evaluates newly launched cars and facelift models during the month and announces the Car of the Month. The evaluation consists of five categories: ▲Interior and exterior design and quality ▲Safety and convenience features ▲Power performance ▲Energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions ▲Marketability and purchase intent.
Among the new cars introduced last month, the Lexus All-New LM 500h, Renault New Renault Koleos, Mercedes-Benz Maybach EQS SUV, MINI New MINI Cooper S 3-Door, and Chevrolet All-New Colorado (in alphabetical order) were nominated for the Car of the Month. After intense competition, the New Renault Koleos scored 34.3 points out of 50 and was ultimately selected as the Car of the Month.
The New Renault Koleos received scores of 7.3 points (out of 10) in the safety and convenience categories and marketability and purchase intent, and scored 7 points in energy efficiency and emissions.
Chairman of the Car of the Year Selection Committee, Jeong Ji-yeon, stated, “The New Renault Koleos is an evolution of Renault’s first SUV, the Koleos. It incorporates attractive features expected in a mid-size SUV, such as spacious interiors, quietness, and advanced driver-assistance systems.” She added, “In particular, it offers various infotainment services through the ‘OpenR’ panoramic screen with three independently functioning 12.3-inch displays that feature excellent connectivity.”
The Korean Automobile Journalists Association has been selecting and announcing the Car of the Month since 2019, and last month, the Kia EV3 was honored as the Car of the Month.
The results of the car of the month selection are announced on the association’s website (www.kaja.org). Vehicles selected as the Car of the Month receive a pre-pass that allows them to proceed directly to the final round of assessments without going through the preliminary assessments for the first and second halves of the Car of the Year.
Meanwhile, the Korean Automobile Journalists Association comprises 58 member media outlets, including major national newspapers, broadcasting stations, news agencies, online platforms, and automotive magazines, with over 200 journalists actively participating.
Founded in August 2010, the association aims to contribute to the development of the automotive industry by promoting credible automotive journalism, fostering a proper automotive culture, improving the capabilities of automotive journalists, and enhancing mutual exchanges among members.
The Korean Automobile Journalists Association selects and announces the ‘Car of the Year (COTY)’ every year, discussing automotive issues, seeking alternatives through symposiums and seminars, organizing tech tours, and hosting awards for automotive professionals.
