“Higher output, higher charging capacity, higher driving range”

These are the three advantages of the new Taycan according to Kevin Gieck, President of Porsche’s Sedan Division, whom I met on the 22nd at the Hyatt Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul during the launch event for the new Taycan.

The Taycan is Porsche’s first four-door electric sports car, having sold over 150,000 units since its global launch in 2019. In South Korea, sales began at the end of 2020, and last year it accounted for 16% of Porsche’s total sales (11,355 units) with 1,805 units, solidifying its position as a key model in the domestic market.

This is the first model change in four years. Although it’s a model change, it is close to a complete redesign. The performance of the powertrain has significantly improved. The battery capacity in the Performance Battery Plus model has increased substantially from 93.7 kWh to 105 kWh. With this increase, the driving range has expanded from a mere 303 km to an impressive 500 km, achieving a remarkable 65% increase compared to the previous model. You can now travel from Seoul to Busan without the need for additional charging.

Charging time has also been drastically reduced. In the new Taycan models, despite the larger battery capacity, ultra-fast charging of up to 320 kW is possible, allowing charging from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. Long-distance journeys no longer have to be hindered by lengthy charging stops.

Output performance has also seen a significant boost. The new Taycan Performance Battery Plus model and the Taycan Turbo S have reduced their acceleration times from a standstill to 100 km/h to 4.8 seconds and 2.4 seconds respectively, speeding up by 0.6 seconds and 0.4 seconds compared to the previous models.

Strong performance is a necessary element. The Taycan Turbo S boasts a maximum output of 952 horsepower with launch control. The Performance Battery Plus model can gain a boost effect of 95 horsepower for 10 seconds through the new Push-to-Pass feature of the Sport Chrono package.

Gieck mentioned that “Porsche Active Ride Suspension has been enhanced compared to previous models, satisfying both comfort and dynamics in braking, driving, acceleration, and steering.”
