KT and Seoul City Partner to Create Climate Comfort Shelters

‘KT has designated 250 stores in the city as Climate Comfort Shelters in collaboration with Seoul City.’

On the 9th, KT announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Seoul City at the Seoul City Hall and will operate 250 KT stores in Seoul as ‘Climate Comfort Shelters’ starting from the 19th.

The signing ceremony was attended by KT’s Customer Division Head, Vice President Lee Hyun-seok, Seoul City’s Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs Yoo Chang-su, and Kwon Oh-byeong, Chairman of the National KT Agency Council.

Climate Comfort Shelters are spaces where anyone in Seoul can comfortably visit to escape from cold and heat, and the city is expanding designations in collaboration with corporations. Previously, the city operated senior centers and community centers as shelters during extreme heat and cold, but access hours were limited and locations faced some restrictions. To alleviate these inconveniences, KT and Seoul City worked together to designate KT stores located throughout the city as Climate Comfort Shelters.

As a result, citizens wishing to use the KT Climate Comfort Shelters can now safely escape from heat and heavy rain at designated KT stores across Seoul. In particular, KT will provide wireless internet and charging facilities for citizens visiting the shelters.

The stores designated as Climate Comfort Shelters will display a certification plaque at their entrances so citizens can easily recognize them, and starting from July 15, the locations and operating hours of these stores will be announced on the disaster safety facility page of the ‘Seoul Safety Nuri’ website available on PC or mobile.

Deputy Mayor Yoo Chang-su emphasized, “Seoul City is strengthening its preparedness to protect the safety of citizens amid fierce rain and record heat this summer,” adding, “We will continue to expand private sector cooperation to ensure that various spaces like Climate Comfort Shelters located throughout daily life can function as safe havens for a healthy summer.”

Vice President Lee Hyun-seok of KT stated, “KT stores are located in convenient areas such as bus stops and city center shops, making them great places to escape the heat,” and added, “We plan to continue expanding operational stores to protect vulnerable groups in the climate crisis and ensure citizens’ safety.”
