On the 11th, KT announced that it is providing services to customers for a ‘safe communication life from crimes such as voice phishing’.

First, KT developed an ‘Emergency Network Blocking Service’ that can urgently block numbers used for voice phishing crimes on the network, starting real-time blocking for criminal lines using the KT network from the 10th.

Previously, it took at least a day and a half to stop criminal lines upon request from investigative agencies. With the introduction of this emergency blocking system, KT can now instantly block outgoing calls from criminal lines, quickly protecting victims exposed to voice phishing threats.

Additionally, KT plans to complete the development of an ‘AI-based Real-Time Voice Phishing Detection’ service during the second half of the year and launch it this year. This service detects the risk level of ongoing voice phishing during a call and informs customers. If deemed high risk, it allows for easy reporting to prevent victimization beforehand.

The service will utilize ‘On-Device AI’ to operate independently without external integration. By not sending sensitive personal data related to voice calls externally, it is designed to ensure that customers can use the service with peace of mind.

KT plans to first integrate real-time voice phishing detection into the ‘Who Who’ app provided by VP Inc., used by over 6 million customers, and plans to continue expanding the service in collaboration with the financial sector.

Furthermore, KT has significantly improved the accuracy and convenience of its lost phone location service. Previously, locations were roughly estimated based on cell tower signals, but now it will use a ‘combined positioning’ method that considers GPS and Wi-Fi signals along with cell towers for precise location tracking. The method for identity verification has also been enhanced by adding KT customer authentication, email verification, and legal representative verification to the existing I-PIN authentication.

The KT lost phone location service can be used on most mobile phones, without restrictions on specific devices or applications.

Lee Byung-moo, Senior Vice President of KT’s Customer Experience Innovation Headquarters, stated, “Through the Emergency Network Blocking Service, Real-Time Voice Phishing Detection Service, and Lost Phone Location Service, we hope customers can enjoy a safer and more convenient communication life. KT prioritizes customer protection and will continue to provide safe and reliable services for our customers in the future.”
