SK Telecom Launches In-Flight Wi-Fi Service ‘T In-Flight Wi-Fi’ – A Game Changer for Travelers

On the 17th, SK Telecom announced the launch of ‘T In-Flight Wi-Fi’, the first service in South Korea to enable Wi-Fi use onboard an aircraft during flight.

‘T In-Flight Wi-Fi’ is a product that allows easy subscription to in-flight Wi-Fi services through SK Telecom’s T-Roaming website and airport roaming centers, without going through the airlines.

Previously, in-flight Wi-Fi services required customers to check for Wi-Fi-enabled flights and complete payment via each airline’s website, and in some cases, subscription was only available after boarding.

Through collaborations with SK Telink, global airlines, and global satellite operators, SK Telecom has prepared the ‘T In-Flight Wi-Fi’ service, enabling customers to check flight availability and subscribe to services all in one place.

SK Telecom launched ‘T In-Flight Wi-Fi’ in partnership with six airlines, including Lufthansa, Japan Airlines, Eastern China Airlines, Air Canada, Qatar Airways, and Etihad Airways, and plans to continuously expand its airline partnerships.

The charges for ‘T In-Flight Wi-Fi’ offered by SK Telecom are categorized based on flight distance into three options for a single flight: long-haul (29,700 KRW), medium-haul (19,800 KRW), and short-haul (17,600 KRW).

To celebrate the launch of ‘T In-Flight Wi-Fi’, SK Telecom has also prepared a discount promotion linked to its roaming service, the baro plan. Customers who subscribe to the baro plan by December 31, 2024, will receive discounts on ‘T In-Flight Wi-Fi’ fees based on their selected data limits: 20% for 3/6GB, 50% for 12GB, and 100% (free) for 24GB. *Refer to the table below

This promotional discount will be available for a total of 36 days during the activation period of the baro plan (30 days), including three days before and after, and will apply twice during this period. For example, if a customer using the baro 24GB plan accesses ‘T In-Flight Wi-Fi’ three times while traveling abroad, they will enjoy free service for the first two times (maximum discount of 59,400 KRW) and will be charged starting from the third use.

Yoon Jae-woong, head of SK Telecom’s Subscription CO, stated, “We aimed to provide a differentiated service experience for our roaming customers starting from the airplane with ‘T In-Flight Wi-Fi’,” and added, “SK Telecom will continue to expand the available airlines for both domestic and international flights, providing customers with affordable and convenient services.”
