Introducing the Volvo EX30: A Game-Changer in the Premium Electric SUV Market

‘EX30’

Volvo Cars Korea announced on the 4th that it will begin a staggered release of its next-generation premium all-electric SUV, the ‘Volvo EX30’, starting from the end of June.

The EX30 is a premium compact SUV developed to target new demands in the electric vehicle market, following the C40 and XC40 Recharge. Since its global unveiling last year, it has won over 20 awards, including being selected as the ‘Urban Car of the Year’ at the 2024 World Car Awards, the ‘2024 Best Product Design’ at the Red Dot Design Awards, ‘Car of the Year’ by the British daily The Sun, ‘Small SUV/Crossover of the Year’ by The Sunday Times, and listed as the ‘Best EV Crossover’ and ‘Eco Warrior of the Year’ by Top Gear Magazine.

In Korea, since its initial unveiling at the end of November last year, it recorded over 1,000 pre-orders within two days, creating renewed excitement in the electric vehicle market.

It will be released as a Single Motor Extended Range model combining a 66kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) lithium-ion battery with a 200kW motor, achieving an official range of 404 km on a single charge according to government certification standards. This means it can drive from Seoul to Busan (approximately 400 km) in a single charge. It achieved an energy efficiency rating of 5.5 km/kWh (5.8 km/kWh in cities, 5.1 km/kWh on highways), attaining a Class 2 rating. Furthermore, it can charge from 10% to 80% in about 26 minutes with a maximum DC fast charging of 153kW.

The EX30 offers an exhilarating driving experience with a motor output of 272 horsepower and a maximum torque of 35.0 kg.m, allowing it to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in just 5.3 seconds.

As the certification process for the EX30 in Korea is wrapping up, Volvo Cars Korea plans to begin release some units by the end of June and start full-scale deliveries in July.

Lee Yoon-mo, CEO of Volvo Cars Korea, stated, “The EX30 is a model that encapsulates all the values that customers have come to expect from Volvo: cutting-edge technology with Scandinavian design, safety expertise, and human-centered spatial philosophy, all in a compact package. With the most competitive pricing compared to anywhere in the world, it will be the best choice for customers seeking premium value and those wanting to experience new electric vehicles.”

Meanwhile, the domestic selling prices of the EX30 are set at 49.45 million KRW (Core) and 55.16 million KRW (Ultra), depending on optional exterior and interior features such as Pilot and Park Pilot assist, a 360-degree camera, and a Harman Kardon premium soundbar system. (Prices after environmental tax benefits, without subsidies).

Additionally, it comes with a digital service package that includes industry-leading warranty for general parts for 5 years or 100,000 km, 8-year/160,000 km high-voltage battery warranty, 15 years of free wireless updates (OTA), and a 5-year TMAP infotainment service subscription.
