SK Telecom is launching the “2024 Gold Number Promotion” to find the owners of 10,000 unique phone numbers.
Gold numbers are those that have specific patterns, such as 1111, 0002, 3000, or are identical to area codes (ABCD-ABCD, ABAB-ABAB), or carry a special meaning (1004, 1472). The gold numbers available for this promotion fall into nine categories, and each person can apply for up to three numbers.
Gold numbers are popular among customers because they are easy to remember and carry significance. Since last year, SKT has increased the number of gold numbers provided through a lottery to 10,000 annually, giving customers a chance to own a phone number with a special meaning. The most popular gold numbers significantly often fall into the symmetric pattern of ABCD-ABCD.
The lottery for gold numbers will be conducted randomly under the supervision of a preference number lottery committee composed of government agencies and relevant organizations such as the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Telecommunications Operators Association (KTOA).
This promotion is open to both existing and new SKT customers, and applications can be made through official SKT certified agents and the T Direct Shop (shop.tworld.co.kr). The application period is until June 23, and the results will be available for checking starting June 28.
Winning customers will receive a text message containing individual notification details, and to use the winning number, it must be registered at SKT official certified agents and T Direct Shop between July 1 and 19.
Additionally, MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) subscribers can also apply for a separate gold number lottery through their respective MVNO operator’s website.
Gold numbers cannot be transferred to others, and customers who already possess a gold number or have acquired one within the last year are ineligible to apply.
