Maserati Unveils Exclusive MC20 Icona and Legend Editions to Celebrate 20 Years of Racing Glory

Maserati unveiled the special limited edition models, MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda, on the 18th. These two special editions commemorate the 20th anniversary of Maserati’s return to racing competitions with the iconic MC12, which made a triumphant track comeback in 2004 after 37 years.

Originally launched as a road version, the MC12 became a benchmark in the GT Championship, earning its reputation on the racetrack, and it is known to have inspired the super sports car Maserati MC20. The MC20 was unveiled in 2020, signaling the dawn of a new era for Maserati, and is the first model equipped with the innovative V6 Nettuno engine, produced entirely in Italy.

Each of the two MC20 special series, limited to 20 units, features special appearances and specifications inspired by the MC12 Stradale and MC12 GT1 Vitaphone.

The design of the Maserati MC20 Icona evokes memories of one of the most iconic Maserati models for fans. It is adorned in the same colors as the predecessor MC12 Stradale released in 2004, paying homage to the styling of the Maserati Trofeo Light that competed in the Daytona 24-hour race. Additionally, the Maserati Trofeo Light was the first vehicle inspired by the Maserati Birdcage Type 61, produced between 1959 and 1961.

The MC20 Icona features an exterior in Bianco Odissea matte and Blue Stradale, incorporating several characteristics of the Fuoriserie customization program. This program offers special and exclusive details for refined customization. The Maserati Fuoriserie logo in Bianco Odissea is placed near the lower front by the rear wheel, while the Italian flag logo is located beneath the MC20 lettering on the door.

The hubcap on the chrome-plated wheels, designed with the Trident, is silver in color, contrasting with the blue Trident logo. The brake calipers are also in blue, and the vehicle features auto-dimming side mirrors and a carbon fiber engine cover.

The MC20 Leggenda carries a history within its name itself. The exterior in Nero Essenza and Digital Mint matte colors mirrors the unique hue of the MC12 GT1 that achieved three wins and two second-place finishes at the Spa 24 Hours as part of the Vitaphone Racing team.

The Fuoriserie of the MC20 Leggenda includes Nero Lucido Trident wheels with Nero Opaco and Trident Digital Mint hubcaps. The grill, doors, and C-pillars showcase yellow Trident logos, while the brake calipers are black.

The Fuoriserie package for both special editions features a racing interior complete with lightweight four-way monocoque racing seats. The MC20 Icona presents a silver background with Nero and blue central sections, while the MC20 Leggenda features a silver background with a Nero central section. The headrests are embossed with the Trident logo accompanied by the words “Icona” or “Leggenda,” depending on the model.

The powerful Nettuno engine cover is adorned with emblems stating “ICONA. UNA DI 20” or “LEGGENDA. UNA DI 20,” informing that each model is limited to 20 units. (“UNA DI 20” means “one of 20.”)

Both vehicles come equipped with a premium Sonus Faber sound system. Both models share a carbon fiber interior package, electronic limited-slip differential (E-LSD), suspension lifter, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic collision prevention assistance systems, as well as floor mats in the front seats and trunk.

The MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda commemorate the 20th anniversary of the birth of the MC12 GT1, which opened Maserati’s golden age on the racetrack. The MC12 GT1 won 27 times in the FIA GT Championship from 2004 to 2010 and has had its name etched three times in the Spa 24 Hours Hall of Fame. Additionally, alongside Vitaphone Racing, it achieved six team titles and five driver titles (including twice in the FIA GT1 World Championship) and brought Maserati two Constructor titles.

Released in 2004, the MC12 Stradale is a historic model that ignited Maserati’s passion for racing. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, this model is equipped with a Ferrari-derived 12-cylinder engine (MC stands for “Maserati Corse” and 12 signifies “V12”), making it the fastest production car in Maserati history. It reaches a top speed of 330 km/h, with a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 3.8 seconds. The MC12 Stradale was limited to only 50 units produced.

Today, the victorious history of the MC12, symbolizing Maserati’s sporty spirit and exceptional DNA, is reflected in both the MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda, much like a baton pass from father to son.
