Hyundai Motor Group Tops JD Power’s 2024 Initial Quality Study

‘Hyundai Santa Cruz’

Hyundai Motor Group achieved the top spot in the most prestigious quality survey in the United States, confirming its recognition for global quality excellence.

According to Hyundai Motor Group, the results from JD Power’s ‘2024 Initial Quality Study (IQS)’ announced on the 28th indicate that it recorded the best overall performance among 15 automotive groups globally.

This year marks the 38th iteration of the JD Power Initial Quality Study, which has been regarded as the highest authority in quality evaluation since 1987. The survey collects quality complaint cases experienced by customers within three months after purchasing a vehicle, presenting the number of complaints per 100 vehicles as a score; the lower the score, the higher the quality satisfaction.

This year’s study was based on surveys conducted with approximately 100,000 customers who purchased new cars in the U.S. from April last year to February this year among 31 brands, including 17 mainstream brands and 14 luxury brands, focusing on 227 items.

Hyundai Motor Group recorded the lowest average score of 164 among the global 15 automotive groups, proudly surpassing Nissan (168) and General Motors (172) to secure first place.

The group received excellent evaluations from customers in areas such as infotainment, driving assistance, and safety features through continuous quality improvement efforts aimed at ensuring customer satisfaction, along with the proactive introduction of innovative convenience features and differentiated designs in its newly launched vehicles.

‘Kia K3’

Hyundai scored 162 points, placing third overall among mainstream and all brands, following Ram (149 points) and Chevrolet (160 points). Kia recorded 163 points, securing fourth place behind Hyundai, showcasing its exceptional quality engineering.

Genesis achieved 184 points, landing it in third place among luxury brands, despite being 48 points below the average for luxury brands, which is 232 points.

Furthermore, in the segment-by-segment evaluation, the following models were recognized as ‘Segment Winners’: ▲Kia K3 (known locally as Forte) has ranked first in the ‘Compact Car’ category for six consecutive years since 2019, ▲Carnival has taken first place in the ‘Minivan’ category for two consecutive years, ▲Genesis G80 has ranked first in the ‘Upper Midsize Premium Car’ category for four consecutive years, and ▲Hyundai Santa Cruz has topped the ‘Midsize Pickup’ category, amounting to a total of four models winning ‘Best Quality Awards.’

The results of the JD Power survey are actively used as key standards for consumers in their car purchasing decisions and as a measure of quality competitiveness among auto manufacturers.

Hyundai Motor Group anticipates that these outstanding results in the new car quality study will further enhance its competitiveness in the North American market.

A representative from Hyundai Motor Group stated, “We will do our utmost to provide the best quality and technology to meet the increasingly diverse demands of our customers,” adding, “Based on the positive response from American consumers, we will continuously strive for quality improvement and innovation to offer vehicles of excellent quality.”
