Renault Korea Unveils Grand Koleos with Whale In-Car Browser at 2024 Busan Mobility Show

‘Renault Grand Koleos equipped with Naver Whale in-car browser’

At the opening of the ‘2024 Busan Mobility Show’ on the 28th, the new ‘Grand Koleos’ from Renault Korea, equipped with the Whale in-car browser, was unveiled.

Naver Cloud developed an in-car browser optimized for automotive use, which has been installed in the Renault Korea D SUV Grand Koleos. This development is part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in February for collaboration to establish a web platform for vehicles between Renault Korea and Dream Ace.

In the Renault Korea Grand Koleos, users can access various web-based services such as ▲ online videos ▲ music streaming ▲ social media through the Whale in-car browser. The Whale in-car browser is designed to be optimized for the automotive environment, ensuring that the car’s internal hardware system integrates seamlessly with web services. It provides a user-friendly interface by removing the ‘browser tab feature’, allowing users to easily experience web services while driving.

The Whale in-car browser is characterized by its high compatibility, offering a range of infotainment services to users without the constraints of automotive hardware or operating systems. Unlike infotainment systems that require separate app development and updates tailored to specific OS, the Whale in-car browser allows for easy development and installation of web apps based on web standards, enhancing service scalability. Naver Cloud and Renault Korea plan to continue their collaboration to offer users a broader spectrum of services.

Kim Hyo, director of Naver Cloud, stated, “We will continue to enhance technology to ensure that the Whale in-car browser connects stably with the vehicle, providing users with an innovative mobility experience,” adding, “Whale will also strengthen the web platform ecosystem across various sectors from edtech to infotainment by leveraging the scalability of web technology.”
