Porsche Unveils First Hybrid 911: A Performance Revolution

‘911 with Hybrid Engine’

Porsche has announced the unveiling of its first 911 sports car equipped with a hybrid drive. The performance-oriented hybrid drive of the new 911 has undergone extensive development and testing and is now ready for production.

Frank Moser, Vice President of the 911 and 718 line, emphasized, “For the first time in 61 years of the brand’s iconic model 911, it is reborn as a street-legal vehicle equipped with a hybrid drive system. It delivers even more dynamic performance as an innovative performance hybrid.” He also mentioned, “We thoroughly tested the vehicle under all conditions worldwide,” stating that during the final phase of tests conducted in Dubai, the development and testing persisted in extreme environments from severe cold to extreme heat. The new 911 hybrid passed challenging driving conditions, where high revolutions and torque can generate significant heat in the drivetrain, including mountainous terrains and congested urban traffic. Porsche engineers and test drivers completed over 5 million kilometers of test driving,” he shared.

Testing at the Nürburgring Nordschleife has traditionally symbolized significant importance when developing the 911 vehicles.

During the performance testing process, Porsche brand ambassador York Bergmeister recorded a lap time of 7 minutes 16.934 seconds, which is 8.7 seconds faster than the previous model. Bergmeister remarked, “The new 911 is significantly faster on the track,” stating, “This is due to greater grip, more power, and the instant responsiveness of the performance hybrid.” The test vehicle was equipped with a basic tire specification as well as an aerodynamic kit featuring a fixed rear wing that provides enhanced downforce during high-speed runs.
