Hyundai Welcomes Manfred Harrer: A New Era for Genesis Performance Development

‘New Vice President of Performance Development at Genesis, Manfred Harrer’

Hyundai Motor Group has decided to enhance its research and development capabilities for luxury and high-performance vehicles and accelerate its transition to electrification by recruiting world-class talent.

On the 28th, Hyundai Motor Group announced that it has established the Genesis & Performance Development division under the R&D headquarters of Hyundai and Kia, appointing Manfred Harrer as the head.

Manfred Harrer brings valuable experience from leading research and development at renowned companies like Porsche and Apple, and he will oversee the development of Genesis and vehicle performance technologies at Hyundai and Kia’s R&D headquarters.

As Vice President, Manfred Harrer will manage the development of all Genesis models, aiming to enhance their commercially appealing features. He will also lead the development of high-performance vehicles represented by Hyundai’s ‘N,’ focusing on boosting competitiveness in the high-performance sector.

With nearly 25 years of experience since 1997 at prestigious automotive brands like Audi, BMW, and Porsche, Manfred Harrer is an expert in vehicle technology, having worked in chassis development, electrical systems, software development, and project management.

During his tenure at Porsche (2007-2021), he played a key role in the development of crucial models including the Cayenne and Boxster as well as Porsche’s first electric vehicle, the Taycan.

In the future, Manfred Harrer is expected to contribute to Hyundai Motor Group’s efforts to accelerate electrification while enhancing the commercial appeal of all vehicles, including high-performance cars.

Yang Hee-won, head of Hyundai and Kia’s R&D headquarters, stated, “The recruitment of world-renowned vehicle performance expert Manfred Harrer will advance the commercial appeal of Genesis, raising the brand’s status while significantly contributing to the performance improvement of high-performance vehicles and the electrification of Hyundai and Kia’s portfolio.”
