Kumho Tire’s Game-Changer: The First ISCC PLUS Certified Tire for the Porsche Taycan

Kumho Tire has supplied the ‘Ion EVO’, an electric vehicle performance tire specially developed for the Porsche ‘Taycan’, marked with the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS, making it the first of its kind in the industry.

The ‘Ion EVO’ provided to the Porsche ‘Taycan’ has incorporated 45% of ISCC PLUS certified sustainable materials, with the ‘ISCC PLUS’ certification emblazoned on the sidewall, making it a world first. The ‘ISCC PLUS’ is an international certification system compliant with the EU’s renewable energy directives, offering transparent reviews and stringent verifications across the entire process from raw materials to production, ensuring high reliability in the field of eco-friendly certifications.

Kumho Tire has successfully developed a product that meets Porsche’s high standards for safety and performance while contributing to sustainability improvements. Renewable and recycled materials such as bio-based silica, recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) tire cords, bio-circular synthetic rubber, recycled carbon black, and natural resin replaced 45% of the conventional tire materials.

Even with the application of sustainable raw materials, the tire maintains the high durability and rigidity characteristic of the previous ‘Ion’ products, providing balanced performance tailored for electric vehicles, perfectly supporting the driving performance of high-output electric cars.

Notably, the ‘Ion EVO’, developed specifically for the Taycan, reduces rolling resistance, significantly extending the vehicle’s range by up to 40 kilometers.

Additionally, leveraging motorsport data and cutting-edge technologies gained from being the exclusive supplier of racing tires for the world’s premier electric vehicle racing series, the ‘Formula E World Championship’, it has been developed to uphold the seamless performance of high-performance electric sports cars.

Meanwhile, Kumho Tire has consistently worked to enhance sustainability in the global tire industry. As a result, in 2021, it became the first in the tire industry to receive ISCC PLUS certification at its Geumsan plant, and last October, its Hungary plant also acquired the same certification.
