BMW’s New 5 Series Crowned ‘2024 World Luxury Car’ at Prestigious Awards

‘5 Series’

BMW Korea has announced that the new 5 Series has been selected as the ‘2024 World Luxury Car’ at the prestigious ‘World Car Awards.’

The World Car Awards involve over 100 judges from around the globe who test and evaluate new vehicles launched in the global market every year. They determine the year’s best cars across six categories through voting. This year’s jury included more than 100 automotive journalists from 30 countries.

The BMW New 5 Series was chosen as the ‘2024 World Luxury Car’ after competing with 13 new models in the luxury category. The jury praised the powerful performance of the BMW New 5 Series’ electrified internal combustion and pure electric drive systems, as well as the comfortable ride and various innovative digital features during long-distance travel.

Bernd Körber, Senior Vice President of BMW Brand and Product Management, Connected Division, expressed, “We are very pleased to receive this prestigious award,” and added, “This recognition proves that BMW’s characteristic excellent quality and strong identity captivate discerning customers around the world.”

The progressive characteristics of the BMW New 5 Series are reflected in its powertrain technology, innovative digital services, elegant and sporty design, spacious interior, optimized comfort, and luxurious atmosphere. Advanced assistance systems, such as highway driving assistance and vision-detecting active lane change assistance, highlight the outstanding long-distance driving capability of the BMW New 5 Series.

The BMW i5, equipped with features like Quick Select, BMW iDrive, BMW Curved Display, and an intelligent personal assistant with extended capabilities, is thoroughly designed to facilitate communication between the driver and the vehicle through touch controls and natural conversation. Passengers in the BMW New 5 Series can watch various video streams on the control display while stationary (for instance, when charging the high-voltage battery) and enjoy a new form of in-car gaming features.

Fully integrated into the BMW New 5 Series model lineup, the BMW i5 delivers the joy of emissions-free driving. The dynamic performance and efficiency of the BMW i5 are based on fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology, which comprises a highly integrated drive unit and a high-density high-voltage battery.

Additionally, with the latest adaptive recovery braking, heat pump technology for indoor heating and cooling, a pure electric drive system, and an intelligent combination of high-voltage battery, the BMW i5 achieves a long range of up to 582km on a single charge according to WLTP standards. Slow charging can fill the battery at a maximum of 22kW, while rapid charging can reach up to 205kW, allowing drivers to secure an impressive 156 km of range in just 10 minutes with a fast charger.

The internal combustion product line of the New 5 Series has also been electrified. Thanks to a powertrain architecture designed to flexibly accommodate various technologies from the outset, the BMW New 5 Series sedan lineup is launched for the first time with a pure electric model alongside plug-in hybrids, high-efficiency gasoline, and diesel engines. The new modular internal combustion engine of the BMW Group Efficient Dynamics engine is equipped with the latest 48-volt mild hybrid technology.

The World Car Awards were launched in 2004, 20 years ago, to select outstanding innovations and new products in the global automotive market alongside regional awards by country. This year, there were a total of six award categories, including the overall category.

BMW has recorded eight awards at the World Car Awards over the past several years. One of these was the BMW 7 Series, which was named World Luxury Car in 2016. In 2018, the BMW M5 took home the title of World Performance Car.
