LG Uplus Expands Direct Internet Plans Through GS25 Partnership

On April 2nd, LG Uplus announced a partnership with GS25 aiming to expand the reach of its Direct Internet plans.

From April 1st, for one month, each of the four popular lunchboxes sold at GS25 convenience stores will have QR codes that lead to video content introducing the ‘Direct Internet Plan’.

An official from LG Uplus explained, “The lunchboxes at GS25 are mainly sold to the 2030 generation customers who are looking for rational and sensible consumption, which aligns with the target audience of the Direct Internet Plan designed for the cost-conscious MZ generation who prefer affordable plans through the internet.”

The Direct Internet Plan is an internet service exclusively for customers aged 18 to 39, offered through the official online store, ‘Uplus.com’. It includes options such as: ▲ ‘100M (19,800 KRW/month, VAT included)’ suitable for browsing and shopping, ▲ ‘500M (26,400 KRW/month)’ to enjoy high-definition movies and games seamlessly, and ▲ ‘1Gb (33,000 KRW/month)’ for rapidly uploading large content. An additional 4,400 KRW is needed to include Wi-Fi.

The primary advantage of this plan is that it is cheaper compared to standard plans, even though it only requires a one-year commitment instead of the usual three. For instance, a three-year commitment for the standard plan ‘Premium Safe 1Gb’ costs 61,600 KRW/month (739,200 KRW/year), while ‘Direct 1Gb’ is available at 33,000 KRW/month (396,000 KRW/year) with a one-year contract. This results in a potential saving of up to 343,200 KRW annually. When bundled with the internet TV service ‘U+tv’, there is also a discount of 1,375 KRW/month, and an additional discount of up to 3,300 KRW/month when combined with U+ mobile (5G/LTE).

The short-term contract is another strength. Its lower cancellation fees have garnered positive feedback from university students, young professionals, and foreign customers staying temporarily in the country. Therefore, LG Uplus is offering tailored benefits, including Wi-Fi for only 4,400 KRW/month, waiving the installation fee for the first setup, and providing a maximum of one year of deferred service.

Meanwhile, LG Uplus will also reward customers who watch the video content accessed via the QR codes on the lunchboxes with various prizes. By scratching off next to the QR code to reveal a number and entering it after watching the content, customers can instantly check if they’ve won. Prizes include a 3-night, 5-day trip package for two to Phu Quoc, Vietnam (1 winner), Gucci GG Marmont luxury bags (2 winners), LG Gram 15-inch laptops (3 winners), AirPods Max (5 winners), and GS25 gift certificates worth 3,000 KRW (500 winners).

Jinwook Kang, Lead of LG Uplus’s Digital Commerce Tribe, stated, “We hope this collaboration will serve as an opportunity to introduce the Direct Internet Plan in a fun way to our 2030 customers and we plan to continue offering various events to provide differentiated customer value on Uplus.com.”
