Lotus Emeya: Unleashing the Future of Electric Hyper GT Sedans

‘Lotus Emeya’

Lotus has unveiled the detailed specifications of its new pure electric hyper GT car, the Emeya. The Emeya is the brand’s first four-door electric sedan, combining 76 years of engineering expertise, design proficiency, and innovation from Lotus.

The Emeya is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that produces over 900 horsepower, achieving a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration (known as ‘zero to a hundred’) in just 2.78 seconds (for Emeya R). It can also accelerate from 80 to 120 km/h in only 2 seconds.

Additionally, the Emeya boasts outstanding aerodynamic performance through features such as an active front grille, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler. All these components work together with what is called ‘Hyperstance’ – a low center of gravity – to improve driving stability as well as deliver exhilarating handling and a comfortable ride that defines a flagship sedan, setting a new benchmark in the GT segment.

The Emeya incorporates eight vents strategically placed throughout the body to manage airflow efficiently. This enhances driving performance and extends the range per charge while improving the cooling performance of the brakes, motors, and battery. This is why it can handle over 900 horsepower output so reliably. Furthermore, the Emeya has a remarkably low aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.21Cd, one of the best in the production car sector.

Not only is the driving performance impressive, but the ‘brain’ of the Emeya is also noteworthy. It features next-generation software powered by dual NVIDIA DRIVE Orin systems. This maximizes vehicle safety and supports over-the-air (OTA) updates, allowing drivers to keep their vehicle updated without visiting service centers.

In particular, the dual NVIDIA DRIVE Orin system offers exceptional data processing capabilities. With the combination of four LiDAR units, 18 radar units, seven 8-megapixel cameras, and five 5-megapixel cameras, it can scan for obstacles around the vehicle up to 200 meters away, even in dark roads or severe weather. This actively ensures passenger safety. In other words, the Emeya is uniquely positioned as it encompasses all the necessary components for 100% autonomous driving.

The electronic air suspension of the Emeya stands out as well. It detects road conditions ahead using cameras and adjusts the damper’s damping rate at a rate of 1,000 times per second. This design allows for the plush comfort characteristic of flagship sedans on regular roads while enabling dynamic driving performance fitting of the Lotus badge on curvy roads.

The Emeya boasts a generous WLTP-rated range of 610 kilometers on a single charge, and it supports 350kW DC fast charging, allowing for a quick 5-minute charge to cover 150 kilometers. Furthermore, it can recharge the battery to 80% in just 18 minutes.

Various sustainable materials are integrated into the Emeya to reduce carbon emissions. Prominent examples include PVD aluminum, Alcantara, UltraFabric PU, and threads made from recycled fibers. Additionally, a sound system developed in collaboration with the British premium audio brand KEF is equipped, featuring award-winning Uni-Q® speaker design, Uni-Core™ space-saving subwoofer enclosure, and Dolby Atmos 3D surround sound.

Advanced equipment, which leads the segment, is also noteworthy. For instance, a 55-inch augmented reality (AR) head-up display (HUD) is installed in front of the driver’s windshield, displaying various necessary driving information prominently. The centrally located 15.1-inch HD OLED display boasts exceptional picture quality and is equipped with the ‘Lotus Hyper OS’ infotainment system, offering specialized features including the Unreal Engine.

Ben Payne, Vice President of Design at Lotus Group, explains, “We designed a high-performance luxury car that builds on everything Lotus has achieved to inspire driver confidence and connect pure emotion and enjoyment of driving to the road.”
