Revolutionizing EV Charging: Hyundai’s Plug & Charge Technology Launch in Jeju

‘New E-Pit located in Aewol, Jeju’

Hyundai Motor Group is applying Plug & Charge (PnC) technology to EV rental cars to promote enhanced electric vehicle charging convenience.

From October 15th (Monday) to October 15th (Tuesday), Hyundai Motor Group will implement PnC technology on electric vehicles from Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis at Lotte Rent-a-Car in Jeju, enhancing the convenience of EV charging.

During this period, a special event will support E-pit ultra-fast charging costs for customers renting these vehicles on a short-term basis, announced on the 14th (Sunday).

The ‘Plug & Charge Technology’ (PnC) allows users to plug in the charging cable, and the authentication, charging, and payment processes are done automatically.

The electric vehicles equipped with PnC at Lotte Rent-a-Car in Jeju include models such as: Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, Kona Electric; Kia EV6, EV9, Niro EV; and Genesis GV60, G80 electric models, GV70 electric model, totaling nine types.

For customers who rent these vehicles short-term and charge at a 260kW charger at the Jeju E-pit charging station, the charging cost will be fully covered up to 80% of the vehicle’s battery capacity.

Customers can simply select the ‘PnC Charging’ button on the charger’s screen to charge easily without any additional authentication or payment processes.

E-pit is Hyundai Motor Group’s ultra-fast charging service, offering the fastest charging speeds in the country. In just 18 minutes, the battery of the Hyundai New Ioniq 5 can be charged from 10% to 80%. (Note: Charging speed may vary depending on external temperature and battery temperature.)

Hyundai Motor Group currently operates 16 E-pit chargers across three locations in Jeju: New E-pit (Aewol-eup, Jeju City), Hagwi Hanaro Mart E-pit (Aewol-eup, Jeju City), and Donggyeongsong E-pit (Gujo-eup, Jeju City), and plans to expand the number of E-pit chargers from 286 to 500 by 2025.

A representative of Hyundai Motor Group stated, “This event for short-term rental customers is just the beginning; we are preparing to extend benefits to corporate electric vehicle customers, including car-sharing services and logistics vehicles in the future,” adding, “We will strive to provide more customers with a convenient and new electric vehicle usage experience through E-pit ultra-fast charging.”
