SK Telecom Showcases AI Innovations at World IT Show 2024

SK Telecom will showcase various AI-based technologies and services at the World IT Show 2024 (WIS 2024), the largest domestic ICT exhibition, held at COEX in Seoul from the 17th for three days.

The theme of SKT’s exhibition is ‘AI, Beyond Communication’, which signifies ‘the evolution of AI-based communication’.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of SK Telecom, and they plan to encapsulate the evolution of mobile communication technologies that have transcended generations, along with their current image as a ‘global AI company’ in an exhibition space of 864㎡ (approximately 260 pyeong).

Visitors will be able to glimpse 40 years of mobile communication history at the SKT exhibition booth. From the entrance, an LED gate symbolizing the 40th anniversary and a large kinetic LED model of a mobile phone will captivate attendees’ attention.

Exhibits will include Korea’s first mobile phone service, the car phone launched in 1984, the devices sold during the commercialization of the world’s first CDMA, and various multimedia services such as June and Nate.

Additionally, the history of SKT’s challenges and innovations in leading the era with ‘first’ technologies, including Korea’s first 4G LTE service and the world’s first 5G commercialization, will be on display.

To enhance the experience, SKT will offer a 40th-anniversary exhibition corner guide program (“Respond 1984”) and a quiz related to the 40th anniversary (“Speed 011 Quiz Show”), along with giveaways to add fun elements.

Inside the exhibition hall, SKT will also set up an A.I. experience zone where visitors can explore the various features of the AI personal assistant, ‘A.Dot’.

In the A.Dot experience zone, visitors will be able to use the recently updated phone function of A.Dot. A notable feature is the ‘AI Spam Indicator’, which helps identify spam calls when receiving calls from unknown numbers based on their classification.

Moreover, they plan to showcase Android version A.Dot’s interpretation call function and other phone functionalities, allowing attendees to directly experience services such as music, media, photos, conversations, schedules, information, and games to convey new customer value.

In conjunction with this, there will be a space showcasing the use cases of SKT’s self-developed large language model (LLM) ‘A.Dot-X’ and collaboration with global partners such as Anthropic and OpenAI in the telco LLM area.

SKT, evolving into a ‘global AI company,’ will configure various demonstration areas for AI services. This includes the pet AI diagnostic assistance service ‘X Caliber’, the AI media studio for media processing and content quality enhancement, the quantum AI camera using vision AI and quantum security technology, and the AI-based indoor and outdoor flow population data and network analysis system ‘LITMUS+’.

Additionally, SKT will demonstrate key technologies related to the AI Data Center (DC), which is considered one of the core components of future AI infrastructure. This includes ‘liquid immersion cooling’, evaluated as a next-generation data center heat management method, along with AI DC management solutions and cloud security technologies essential for efficient management and operation of data centers.

Furthermore, a booth allowing visitors to experience various contents of SKT’s metaverse service ‘Ifland’ is expected to attract significant attention from attendees.

Meanwhile, during the WIS 2024 exhibition, SKT plans to invite representatives and employees from excellent partner companies for a joint visit event.

Park Kyu-hyun, Vice President of SKT’s Digital Comm Division, stated, “This exhibition will be an opportunity to see SKT’s technological prowess and future vision, which has led the history of mobile communication in Korea for 40 years. I look forward to visitors experiencing our country’s advanced AI technologies and ICT services through various experiential activities.”
