Hyundai Kia will showcase its upgraded lineup equipped with major purpose-built vehicle (PBV) innovations and next-generation technologies at the 37th World Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition (EVS37) on the 24th in COEX, Gangnam, Seoul.
KG Mobility will unveil three models, including the Torres EVX, the only SUV electric vehicle in Korea, emphasizing leisure use and space utilization with its cargo vans. Additionally, Hyundai Mobis will debut the mobility demonstration vehicle ‘Mobi-On,’ which captivated the audience at the CES 2024.
Sunwoo Myung-ho, the chair of EVS37 and president of the World Electric Vehicle Association, held a press conference on the 17th at the Seoul Press Center ahead of the event’s opening. He stated, “The Seoul event of EVS, known as the ‘Olympics of Electric Vehicles,’ is expected to be a competitive stage for the most innovative electric vehicle technologies. Numerous domestic and international companies leading the battery market will participate and showcase their advanced technological capabilities.”
He added, “Among the top six battery manufacturers globally, three are from Korea (LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, SK On), and with Hyundai Motor Group likely to secure a spot in the top three of the global electric vehicle market share in 2024, Korea has emerged as the ‘Mecca’ of electric vehicles. The EVS37 event will reaffirm Korea’s position in the global electric vehicle market.”
As EVS37 is being held in Seoul, a majority of the exhibitors will be Korean companies (63%), followed by Europe (21%), China and Asia (12%), and the Americas (4%). A total of 160 global companies will set up 550 booths. This year’s EVS37 is expected to reach record attendance, with over 10,000 applicants for public participation already registered.
Additionally, the EVS37 will host a conference featuring 500 papers submitted from about 30 countries and over 1,500 scholars and experts from more than 40 countries. The keynote speeches will be delivered by Han Dong-hee, an executive at Hyundai Motor Company, and Park Il-pyeong, CEO of LG Science Park, along with a special session titled ‘Electric Vehicle Tech Summit.’
