3M Unveils Innovative Battery Solutions at InterBattery 2024

‘3M Booth’

3M is participating in ‘InterBattery 2024’ held at COEX in Seoul from the 6th for three days, showcasing its innovative battery material solutions. The automotive battery industry is paying close attention to 3M’s adhesive solutions, developed from over 100 years of accumulated experience.

Since introducing Three-M-Ite™ abrasives in 1914, 3M has provided various material solutions in the automotive sector, including masking tapes, paint protection films, and glass bubbles. Recently, it has also contributed to the battery industry’s development with barrier materials and thermal management materials, gaining recognition as a battery materials company.

By participating in the country’s largest secondary battery industry exhibition, 3M aims to solidify its position as a battery materials company further. At this exhibition, 3M has organized its booth around three main themes: adhesive solutions, safety management, and sustainability.

3M introduces innovative battery unit assembly solutions, including solvent-free adhesives, extruded tapes, and structural acrylic and plastic adhesives, based on its extensive experience across various industries. Extruded tapes and automation systems maximize manufacturing process efficiency and simplicity, guaranteeing consistent product quality—a point of significant interest for battery industry stakeholders.

Moreover, at the ‘InterBattery 2024’ booth, 3M addresses safety management technologies, such as heat runaway prevention, allowing booth visitors to directly explore solutions for tackling the persistent ‘safety’ problems considered chronic within the electric vehicle market. Furthermore, lightweight and thermal conductivity technologies that can enhance the energy efficiency of electric vehicles will attract interest from visitors and industry representatives alike.

Seoh-Won Sang, head of the Electric Products Business Team at 3M, stated, “InterBattery 2024 seems to serve as a great opportunity for us to showcase our diverse battery solutions to many people. Based on our accumulated experience and technological capabilities across various industries, including the automotive sector, we aim to continuously contribute to improving battery performance and safety,” he said.
