Hyundai Unveils the Innovative ST1 Electric Business Platform

‘Hyundai ST1’

On the 14th of this month, Hyundai unveiled the design of its new electric business platform, ‘ST1’.

ST1 is a business platform vehicle that can be expanded in an optimized form based on its chassis cab according to its intended use.

Thus, Hyundai plans to expand its electric vehicle lineup to include commercial models following its passenger models, thereby enhancing its foothold in the electric vehicle market.

The name ST1 stands for ‘Service Type 1’, with ‘ST’ signifying a business platform capable of providing various services and solutions, while the number 1 indicates it as the first model in the series.

The exterior design of ST1 emphasizes safety and practicality as expected from a business vehicle.

The front features a semi-bonnet design that enhances crash safety. The semi-bonnet type allows about half of the Power Electric room (the bonnet) to protrude forward from the cabin, creating a crash absorption space to increase safety during a collision.

Additionally, protective black-colored bumpers are applied to areas prone to scratches, such as the front bumper, side garnishes, and the border of the rear twin swing doors, both protecting the vehicle and maintaining a sleek aesthetic.

By lowering the ground clearance, Hyundai maximized the loading area capacity and made it easier to access underground parking while enhancing convenience for workers loading and unloading cargo.

The ST1 is equipped with a streamlined roof spoiler and garnishes that seamlessly connect the cab and loading area to enhance aerodynamic performance.

The initial development of ST1 focuses on the cargo and cargo refrigeration models. These models will equip the chassis cab with regular or refrigerated loading areas, specifically designed for logistics and delivery services.

From the early stages of ST1 development, Hyundai has closely communicated with major domestic distribution companies to reflect actual customer needs in the vehicle. They have tested prototype vehicles in customer operations to develop highly customized solutions for the logistics and delivery industry.

A representative from Hyundai stated, “The ST1 is a business platform with diverse expansion possibilities,” adding, “Starting with a vehicle optimized for logistics and delivery, we hope to expand it into a platform tailored for various uses that many customers will love in the future.”

Hyundai plans to reveal the main specifications, dimensions, and pricing of the ST1 by the first half of this year, starting sales of the cargo and cargo refrigeration models domestically.
