Experience Cherry Blossom Season with Real-Time Crowd Data from SK Telecom’s AI Assistant

“Gyeongbokgung gets the busiest at 3 PM… Avoid peak hours.”

On the 25th, SK Telecom announced that it will add crowd information for cherry blossom spots to its AI personal assistant, AIDOT.

The AIDOT crowd service is based on data from communication equipment such as base stations and provides information about congestion levels on subways (Lines 1-9, Shinbundang Line, Airport Railroad) and public places (shopping malls, tourist sites, sports facilities, etc.).

Last November, the congestion service was first launched on AIDOT, and it is continuously adding information on places that require crowd data according to the season. Starting March 25, with the arrival of cherry blossom season, 37 cherry blossom spots have been added to provide useful information about crowded places for cherry blossom outings.

AIDOT is expected to assist users in enjoying a pleasant outing by providing predicted crowd levels by day of the week and time of day, real-time crowd levels, recent visitation trends, and visitor age distribution at popular cherry blossom spots.

Additionally, SKT analyzed the cherry blossom season data from 2022 and 2023 to reveal the Top 10 most visited spots and the Top 5 popular spots by age group.

Seokchon Lake ranked first in visitor numbers for two consecutive years, while places like Jamwon Hangang Park, Maehun Citizen’s Forest, and Mulwang Lake emerged as new popular spots in 2023. The preference for popular spots also varied by age group; those in their 20s tended to prefer downtown Seoul, while those in their 30s and 40s sought parks suitable for outings with children, and those aged 50 and above primarily visited areas outside Gyeonggi Province.

Yoon Hyun-sang, who oversees interactions at SKT’s AI Service Division, stated, “We hope the cherry blossom spot crowd service will provide practical assistance to customers during the busy cherry blossom outing season,” and added, “We will continue to provide a competitive AI assistant experience by leveraging SKT’s big data and technology through AIDOT.”
