SK On Teams Up with Ferrari for Battery Cell Technology Innovation

SK On and Ferrari are collaborating to innovate battery cell technology. This partnership, which began with the installation of SK On batteries in Ferrari’s plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles, is aimed at strengthening the competitive edge of both companies.

On the 27th, SK On announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ferrari for battery cell technology innovation at the SK Serin building in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

Attending the signing ceremony were SK On CEO Lee Seok-hee, Chief Commercial Officer Seong Min-seok, and Chief Technology Officer Lee Jang-won, along with Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna and Chief R&D Officer Ernesto Lasalandra.

Under the agreement, both companies will share their expertise and further expand their ongoing technical collaboration, aiming to lead innovation in battery cell technology.

SK On is Ferrari’s sole battery supplier. Since 2019, it has been supplying batteries for Ferrari’s first PHEV model, the ‘SF90 Stradale’, as well as the convertible version, the ‘SF90 Spider’. Last year, the limited-edition special series, ‘SF90 XX Stradale’ and ‘SF90 XX Spider’, also featured SK On batteries.

SK On continues to supply batteries for Ferrari’s PHEVs, including the ‘296 GTB’ and ‘296 GTS’, which were launched in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

Benedetto Vigna, CEO of Ferrari, stated, “The collaboration between our two companies will promote joint development.” He added, “Ferrari will strengthen its partnership with SK On to explore new realms.”

Lee Seok-hee, CEO of SK On, expressed his excitement about being part of Ferrari’s electrification journey as a leader in the global supercar market, saying, “Combining our technological expertise and professionalism, we expect to offer customers new experiences and value.”
