Revolutionizing Golf Broadcasting: SK Telecom and KLPGA’s AI Partnership

SK Telecom announced on the 27th that it has signed a business agreement with the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) to establish an AI-based golf video archive project.

This agreement involves the launch of golf data broadcasting utilizing AI media technology through SKT’s A. media and SKB’s B tv in April, where player shot videos will be combined with data to help viewers easily find footage and records of their favorite players.

The KLPGA has been manually archiving videos and records of its players, but it will now implement SKT and SKB’s AI media technology into its video archiving efforts.

This collaboration brings together the KLPGA, which holds the rights related to golf competitions, SBS Golf, which holds the broadcasting rights for golf tournaments, CNPS, which provides official data for golf competitions, and SKT, which has AI media technology, to contribute to the KLPGA’s archive project.

The AI media technology applied will automatically edit video segments based on player actions and scores recognized during live broadcasts, storing combined data and transmitting relevant footage in real-time to A. media, B tv, or the KLPGA’s website.

This MOU aims for the four companies, each with their respective rights and technologies, to collaboratively facilitate performance analysis of golf players, enhance fan engagement, and contribute to the growth of the golf industry in South Korea.

As a result of this collaboration, AI broadcast coverage will begin on April 4 from the KLPGA’s first domestic tournament, the “Doosan Construction We’ve Championship,” available on SKT A. media and SBS Golf channel.

Kim Hyuk, head of SKT Media Content, stated, “This service, which we have hoped for since the advent of digital broadcasting, has now become a reality thanks to the support and cooperation of SBS Golf and KLPGA. We expect that the combination of SKT’s AI media technology with data and sports will provide fans with a new sports viewing experience.”
