On the 26th (local time), Maserati completed the shakedown of the uncompromising 730-horsepower ‘beast’, the Maserati MCXtrema, announcing its return to the track. Maserati plans to conduct a series of tests by the end of April, aiming for the first customer deliveries of the MCXtrema by the summer of 2024.
The MCXtrema is a street-legal, non-homologated racing car limited to just 62 units globally, born to break away from traditional boundaries and create a new paradigm. It embodies the 100% Italian brand DNA of Maserati and showcases outstanding performance, demonstrating a groundbreaking approach to racing through a series of basic tests aimed at collecting data for final tuning while racing through the curves of the circuit. Sporting the trident emblem, this special vehicle represents one of the boldest cars in the brand’s history from a development perspective and is an evolution of the Maserati MC20 super sports car that inspired its creation.
In February, official testing of the MCXtrema was conducted at the Autodromo Varano de’ Melegari in Parma, Italy. The test driver was Maserati’s chief test driver Andrea Bertolini, a four-time GT class world champion. He was a successful driver for the glorious MC12 in the past and has been involved in the development of the MCXtrema from early stages through dynamic simulations.
The test drive conducted in February and subsequent efforts for performance improvement were a perfect setup to maximize the potential of the 730 horsepower (540 kW) 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, which has been further enhanced from the Maserati Nettuno engine.
The MCXtrema was born by fully leveraging Maserati’s cutting-edge technology and equipment. A crucial role was played by the virtual analysis team utilizing Maserati’s advanced dynamic simulator and the powertrain calibration team managing the immense power output from the Nettuno engine.
The experience gained during the MC20 development, in-depth analysis of each part, and rigorous bench testing on the engine have maximized the accuracy of the simulation. Consequently, the completed cars that enter the actual track testing phase have shown performance figures similar to those validated by the simulator, leaving only the final adjustments for actual driving performance.
Furthermore, virtual work played a key role in the MCXtrema’s development. About 200 hours of operations with the Maserati dynamic simulator, 1,000 hours of virtual analysis for various types of simulations, and comparisons with real track feedback were conducted. Alongside the comprehensive effort that includes four years of MC20 development and subsequent engine reliability tests, the MCXtrema is a pinnacle of cutting-edge engineering and innovation. The perfect design by Maserati Centro Stile harmonizes seamlessly with efficient aerodynamic requirements tailored for all track conditions.
Maserati’s chief test driver Andrea Bertolini stated, “Driving a new car on the track always brings a special and unique feeling. The MCXtrema is no different. Maserati offers a customizable journey for all MCXtrema customers from the early stages of vehicle creation, providing an in-depth understanding of the car-making process and allowing every detail to be explored and managed in conjunction with the client for the ultimate bespoke experience.
Known as the ‘Beast’, the MCXtrema is a special model for only 62 customers, for whom Maserati provides a bespoke program called MCXlusiva. This program is designed to provide customers with a special experience that could not be obtained previously.
Maserati considered every detail meticulously. This ensures that future owners of Maserati’s most powerful track car experience true specialness from every perspective.
The MCXlusiva program offers options for customizing the vehicle with one of three unique styles created at Maserati Centro Stile, in addition to the elegant Blue Xtrema color specially crafted for this four-wheeled masterpiece. The three styles, Tech Beast, Corse, and Speed Beast, all embody unique identities and racing spirits.
The customization doesn’t stop there. Customers can choose the color of the wheel rim between Matte Black or Grigio Corsa Bright, and seats can be selected in blue, black, or ice versions.
Additionally, for customers seeking even more unique self-expression, a ‘BEASTspoke’ option is available. By selecting this option, customers can add a desired unique number to the vehicle’s paintwork and choose the color of the steering wheel grip.
Another customizable detail includes the “One of 62” plate located inside the seats, where the name of the MCXtrema customer or a meaningful phrase they wish to share during their track experience can be engraved.
Maserati has decided to enhance the world of MCXtrema owners—known as the ‘Beast’—by introducing the MCXperience service. This customized customer experience program represents an exclusive club for MCXtrema owners, offering a series of services to deeply experience the world of Maserati racing alongside professional drivers and Maserati Corse service technicians.
MCXperience provides concierge service for track experiences and an MCXtrema kit developed in collaboration between Maserati Centro Stile and drivers. Through this kit, drivers can feel like real racing drivers in the MCXtrema.
