Hyundai Ioniq 5 RoboTaxi Takes on Driver’s License Test: A Leap into Autonomous Driving

‘Ioniq 5 RoboTaxi Passing the Driver’s License Test’

Hyundai Motor Company is promoting the safety and reliability of its autonomous driving technology with the Ioniq 5 RoboTaxi.

Hyundai announced that it has released a campaign video titled ‘Ioniq 5 RoboTaxi, Passing the Driver’s License Test’ on its worldwide YouTube channel on Saturday, the 30th. In this campaign, Hyundai aims to convey its uncompromising commitment to safety and reliability in autonomous driving technology while promoting inclusivity to offer freedom of movement to diverse customers.

The video begins with an interview featuring a visually impaired individual, Pearl Outlaw, who faces mobility challenges in daily life, and expresses a future where the safety of the Ioniq 5 RoboTaxi technology is proven through the driver’s license test, allowing for free movement.

The Ioniq 5 RoboTaxi took on a driving test similar to the actual driver’s license exam under the supervision of a Nevada state driving examiner, complying with traffic regulations, recognizing lane situations, and successfully passing driving tests on the roads of Las Vegas, which demonstrated its safety and reliability.

The Ioniq 5 RoboTaxi, developed through years of efforts from the Hyundai Motor Group and autonomous driving technology company Motional, features sensors (a combination of LiDAR, radar, and cameras) installed in the vehicle that enable stable driving in various environments.

Jisung Won, Director of Brand Marketing at Hyundai Motor Company, stated, “Through this campaign, we wanted to show that Hyundai is a company pursuing future mobility that offers a higher level of freedom of movement. I wanted to demonstrate the safety and reliability of the Ioniq 5 RoboTaxi and will continue to communicate about AI-based autonomous driving technology that brings various changes to our lives to realize our brand vision of ‘Progress for Humanity.’”
