January Sales Insights: Kia Dominates the Market with Surging Sorento and Carnival

The sales figures for January show that the five domestic car manufacturers sold a total of 102,794 vehicles, down 10.3% from the previous month’s 114,654 units.

Kia, riding the auspicious momentum of the new year, surpassed Hyundai to take the top spot in sales, with the Sorento firmly maintaining its status as a people’s car. The Carnival also saw consistent sales, signaling the unyielding era of Kia in the new year. Hyundai’s Santa Fe has emerged as the key model, edging out the Grandeur to establish SUVs as the flagship for both Hyundai and Kia.

Kia reported sales of 44,683 units, a slight decline of 1.1% from the previous month’s 45,167 units. The Sorento accounted for 9,284 units, a notable increase of 15.1% compared to the previous month’s 8,068 units. The Carnival sold 7,049 units, reflecting a substantial 32.9% rise over the previous month’s 5,305 units. The Sportage recorded 5,934 units, up 3.4% from last month’s 5,739 units.

Hyundai Santa Fe

Hyundai sold 38,461 units, a decrease of 25.2% from the previous month’s 51,478 units. The Santa Fe showed a modest leap to 8,016 units from 7,682 last month, a 4.3% increase. The Tucson achieved a sales figure of 5,152 units, jumping 43.6% from the previous month’s 3,588 units. However, the Porter dropped to 4,927 units, reflecting an 18.6% decrease from 6,053 units last month.

Genesis recorded a total of 11,349 units, jumping 6.1% from 10,694 units the previous month. The GV80 sold 4,596 units, increasing by 3.6% compared to 4,437 units last month. The GV70 showed a significant increase of 64.1%, with 3,494 units sold compared to 2,129 units the previous month. However, the GV70 saw a decline, selling 2,232 units, down 15.7% from 2,648 units.

KG Mobility Torres

KG Mobility recorded 3,762 units sold, marking a 7.3% increase from 3,507 units the previous month. The Torres had sales of 1,462 units, up 5.7% from 1,383 units last month. The Rexton Sports saw 1,362 units sold, reflecting a robust 35.1% increase over 1,008 previously. The Tivoli rose to 627 units sold from 466 last month, a 34.5% increase.

GM recorded sales of 2,894 units, up 30.7% from 2,214 in the previous month. The Trax crossover achieved 2,246 units, a 37.2% rise from 1,637 previously. The Trailblazer saw 461 units sold, showing a 13.3% increase from 407 units last month. The Traverse surged to 119 units sold, reflecting an impressive 153% increase from 47 units.

Renault sold 1,645 units, a 3.2% increase from 1,594 units the previous month. The XM3 jumped to 974 units sold, up 38% from the previous month’s 706 units. The QM6 recorded 577 units, showing a decline of 23.7% from 756 units last month. The SM6 reported 94 units sold, down 28.8% from the previous month’s 132 units.
