Strategic partnerships between mobility platforms and insurance companies through the safe driving score system are thriving. The safe driving score system has become essential for all mobility platform companies as it offers a discount on insurance premiums.
Tmap opened the doors to the safe driving score system. Tmap Mobility was the first in the industry to integrate safe driving services with insurance companies on April 28, 2016. When driving starts, it analyzes the driver’s sudden acceleration and braking to assess the driver’s risk and diagnose the safe driving score.
The higher the safe driving score, the more favorable it is for the driver, as it leads to discounts on car insurance premiums. The positive consumer reactions driven by these premium discounts have resulted in safety insurance agreements with nine insurance companies as of now. Drivers can now choose the best insurance conditions through Tmap without needing to check each time they renew their policy over the phone.
Kakao Mobility also implemented a safe driving score system for Kakao Navigation users starting in August 2022 and partnered with DB Insurance. This strategic alliance between Kakao Mobility and DB Insurance has received positive feedback from Kakao Navigation users. A representative from Kakao Mobility mentioned, “While we cannot disclose the number of users utilizing the safe driving score, it continues to grow steadily.”
In response, Naver is also preparing to implement a safe driving score system through collaboration with DB Insurance on car insurance discount products. They are conducting sample collection research on the driving data of customers applying for the safe driving score system and plan to launch insurance-linked products once this sample study is completed.
