Unveiling the BMW R 1300 GS: The New Standard in Touring Enduro Motorcycles

New R 1300 GS

BMW Motorrad officially launches the next-generation touring enduro motorcycle, the New R 1300 GS, in South Korea.

Since launching the first model, the ‘R 80 G/S’, in 1980, which integrated on-road and off-road riding, BMW Motorrad has continued its successful legacy in the new realm of ‘touring enduro’.

The newly released BMW R 1300 GS features a dynamically evolved design, lightweight construction, the latest two-cylinder boxer engine, and new suspension and electronic systems, offering optimal performance across various riding conditions.

Equipped with the most powerful engine in the history of the GS series, the BMW R 1300 GS boasts a completely redesigned 1,300cc two-cylinder boxer engine. This engine incorporates BMW’s ShiftCam technology, adjusting intake valve timing and stroke to achieve a maximum output of 145 hp at 7,750 rpm and a peak torque of 149 Nm at 6,500 rpm. Additionally, relocating the gearbox below the engine and adjusting the drive shaft position has resulted in a more compact size.

The suspension has also been entirely newly developed. The main frame, made from sheet metal, provides greater rigidity and space than before, while the aluminum die-cast rear frame, new EVO Telelever with flex element, and improved EVO Paralever enhance steering precision and ride comfort.

The BMW R 1300 GS emphasizes sporty appeal with a more dynamic design than its predecessor. The most significant change is the headlight. The new matrix LED headlight creates a unique impression with its innovative daytime running lights while providing excellent visibility. The newly designed LED turn signals are integrated into the hand guards, completing the light concept of the New R 1300 GS. Adding the optional ‘Headlight Pro’ feature allows the light beam direction to dynamically adjust according to the vehicle’s lean angle, enhancing visibility during nighttime riding.

The aluminum fuel tank is designed to maintain a gentle slope towards the seat, preserving BMW GS’s traditional body lines while emitting a more dynamic and lively feel. Furthermore, the ergonomic design ensures a rider’s free movement.

The New R 1300 GS comes with a new Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) feature. DSA dynamically adjusts the spring stiffness and damping forces of both the front and rear suspension according to riding mode, road conditions, and vehicle movement. This revolutionary technology delivers thrilling riding experiences across all conditions, ensuring high levels of performance and safety.

Various assistance features for enhanced safety and convenience are integrated into the New R 1300 GS. These include an adaptive cruise control with distance control, a forward collision warning with threat detection alert, and lane-change warning integrated into the side mirrors, all supporting safe riding.

A new Enduro mode has been added to the existing Rain, Road, and Eco modes, offering improved off-road riding experiences. Additionally, keyless ride functionality, tire pressure monitoring (TPM), and full integral ABS Pro are standard features that enhance riding convenience.

The New R 1300 GS, launching in South Korea, comes in four models: the base model in Light White, style Triple Black, style GS Trophy, and optional 719 specifications, with prices ranging from 36.6 million to 39 million KRW.
