Hyundai Motor Group Takes the Wheel for Mobility Support of Vulnerable Communities

Hyundai Motor Group is taking the lead in improving the mobility rights of vulnerable individuals through their mobility support initiatives.

The event titled ‘Vulnerable Mobility Support Project Delivery Ceremony’ was held on the 5th at Kia Vision Square, attended by over 40 representatives, including Hyundai Motor Group Vice President Han Yong-bin, Executive Director of the Korean Community Chest Hwang In-sik, Chairman of the Korean Association of Welfare Facilities for Persons with Disabilities Jeong Seok-wang, Chairman of the Korean Spinal Cord Injury Association Jeong Jin-wan, Chairman of the Korean Rehabilitation Counselors Association Park Kyung-soon, and Secretary-General of the Korean Federation of the Disabled Kim Dong-beom.

The Vulnerable Mobility Support Project is a social contribution initiative that Hyundai Motor Group has been conducting since 2011 to enhance the mobility rights of vulnerable individuals. Through this initiative, Hyundai has donated various mobility devices such as welfare vehicles, bicycles for the disabled, electric scooters for the elderly, and strength aids, with a total cumulative donation amounting to approximately 7.9 billion won as of this year.

This year’s support items include 24 Ray welfare vehicles, 6 Carnival welfare vehicles, and 105 mobility aids (49 electric wheelchairs and 56 electric scooters), amounting to approximately 1.2 billion won.

The Ray and Carnival welfare vehicles were developed by Easy Move, a social enterprise fostered by Hyundai Motor Group, featuring designs optimized for wheelchair users.

Hyundai Motor Group donated these items to the Korean Association of Welfare Facilities for Persons with Disabilities, the Korean Spinal Cord Injury Association, the Korean Rehabilitation Counselors Association, and the Korean Federation of the Disabled.

Each organization plans to select the final beneficiaries for welfare vehicles and mobility aids through fair and transparent evaluations.

The Ray and Carnival welfare vehicles are intended to support the daily lives and nursing services of individuals with severe disabilities residing in institutions nationwide, while the mobility aids will be delivered to persons with moderate to mild disabilities who are in welfare blind spots.

A representative from Hyundai Motor Group said, “We hope that our mobility support activities can provide small assistance for better mobility and a better life for vulnerable individuals. We will continue various social contribution activities aiming for safe and free mobility for all vulnerable individuals, including those with disabilities.”
