Lotus Unveils Game-Changing 450kW Ultra-Fast EV Charging Solution

Lotus Ultra-Fast Electric Vehicle Charger

Lotus has developed its own ultra-fast electric vehicle charging solution.

The issue of charging anxiety is considered one of the biggest challenges for consumers looking to purchase electric vehicles. With the aim of completing its transition to an electric vehicle brand by 2028, Lotus Automotive seeks to enhance consumer confidence and provide a new charging experience through its proprietary charging solution.

The core of Lotus’s ultra-fast electric vehicle charging solution lies in its output capacity of up to 450kW, liquid cooling system, and modular power cabinets. This innovation is set to improve charging infrastructure and introduce a new era of fast charging.

The liquid-cooled integrated DC charger offers two outputs: 450kW for ultra-fast charging and 350kW for fast charging. Using the 450kW ultra-fast charge allows the Electra R to gain enough power for up to 142km of driving range with only about 5 minutes of charging. For the 350kW fast charge, a 5-minute charge can provide around 120km of driving range.

The liquid-cooled power cabinet has been designed for locations such as highway rest area chargers, where minimization of charging time and high energy efficiency are essential. This modular power cabinet can output up to 480kW.

Moreover, the liquid-cooled charging unit, which acts as a charging terminal, can charge four electric vehicles simultaneously when used with the liquid-cooled power cabinet. With a maximum output of 600A, it meets the diverse needs of electric vehicle drivers for ultra-fast charging for short trips or rapid charging for long-distance travel.

Lotus’s ultra-fast electric vehicle charging solution has been introduced in the Chinese market first, with plans to expand to most European countries and the Middle East starting from the second quarter of 2024. Additional countries, including South Korea, where the charging solution will be adopted, will be announced in due course. This announcement of the electric vehicle charging solution highlights Lotus’s Vision 80 strategy of transitioning to an electric vehicle brand by 2028.

Mike Johnston, Lotus’s Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, stated, “Lotus has invested significantly in technology and infrastructure over the past six years to transform quickly into an electric vehicle brand. I am confident that through the development of our ultra-fast electric vehicle charging solution, many people will be able to own electric vehicles and charge them quickly and efficiently.”

Meanwhile, Kolon Mobility Group, which established Lotus Automotive Korea after signing an official partnership agreement with Lotus in May of this year, is the only official importer of Lotus in Korea and is conducting exclusive distribution. Additionally, drawing on its long history and expertise in premium automotive distribution, Kolon Mobility Group is leading a comprehensive mobility business through restructuring and expansion, launching a new mobility service brand called ‘702.’
