Volvo Donates 1,400 Trees to Create a Green Legacy at Nanjido Sunset Park

Volvo Car Korea has announced the completion of its ‘2023 Eco-Friendly Campaign’ by donating 1,400 trees to Nanjido Sunset Park in collaboration with the Environmental Foundation.

This donation of trees is part of an extended initiative stemming from the ‘Volvo Pavilion’ event held in October at the Seoul Arts Center’s lawn. The ‘Volvo Pavilion’ was designed to showcase Volvo’s eco-friendly vision and the values of sustainability that it pursues. This project featured an exhibition of eco-friendly structures made from various recyclable materials, as well as interactive environmental programs like the tree donation initiative that encouraged customer participation.

During the campaign, the enthusiastic participation of visitors at the site exceeded expectations, with a total of 700 participants surpassing the initial goal of 500 tree donors. In addition, Volvo Car Korea added 700 trees of its own, bringing the total donation to 1,400 trees planted in Nanjido Sunset Park in the names of the participants.

The 1,400 trees donated were planted by 12 activists and 145 volunteers from the non-profit organization ‘Sunset Park Citizens’ Association,’ from November 12 to 26. This initiative contributes to creating a healthy forest in Nanjido, which had been severely polluted due to indiscriminate waste dumping in the past, through the process of ecological succession, replacing old species with new over time.

Lee Yun-mo, CEO of Volvo Car Korea, stated, “This tree donation is part of our efforts for the next 100 years of the Earth,” adding that “Volvo is committed to realizing sustainability values in all areas, from product development to social contributions, to ensure a harmonious and safe coexistence for all beings on the planet.”

Meanwhile, Volvo Car Korea has been running the ‘2023 Eco-Friendly Campaign’ since June, aimed at ensuring the planet’s safety and a better tomorrow. During the ‘2023 Busan Design Week’, Volvo revealed an ‘Upcycling Living Design Project’ utilizing automotive waste materials in collaboration with local artists. Activities like ‘2023 Hey Plogging,’ a litter-picking while running event, and ‘Volvo Road’ have also been successfully conducted. Structures exhibited in the ‘Volvo Pavilion’ have been transformed into eco-friendly furniture donated to facilities for children.
