Volvo Unveils the EX30: A Game-Changer in the Electric SUV Market

Volvo Cars Korea will unveil the premium pure electric SUV, Volvo EX30, on the 28th in South Korea, marking the first public appearance and initiating pre-orders online.

The new premium electric SUV EX30 from Volvo is a compact SUV designed to meet the rapidly growing global EV trend and cater to new customer demands. Built on the philosophy of making life safer and more convenient, it encompasses all the values that customers expect from Volvo vehicles in a compact package.

To achieve this, the EX30 includes a new family design that symbolizes the electrification era, innovative spatial design and smart storage technology, groundbreaking ‘Safe Space Technology’ that sets new standards for urban safety, and advanced connectivity that offers innovative user experiences. Notably, it has already been recognized before its release by UK daily, ‘The Sun,’ as ‘Car of the Year’ and has been nominated as ‘Best Small SUV/Crossover’ in the News UK Motor Awards, garnering significant market anticipation.

In South Korea, it will launch with a rear-wheel-drive single motor extended-range electric powertrain, suitable for both urban driving and weekend long-distance trips. With a high energy efficiency design featuring a 69.0 kWh NMC battery, it enables a driving range of up to 475 km on a single charge (according to WLTP standards). (Domestic specifications are yet to be determined.)

Volvo Cars Korea aims to set the EX30’s domestic price to qualify for 100% electric vehicle subsidies, facilitating wider adoption of electric cars and the popularization of Swedish premium vehicles.

Lee Yoon-mo, CEO of Volvo Cars Korea, stated, “The EX30 is a model that opens our future towards safety on the roads and safety for the planet. We are striving to minimize customer concerns regarding the price of purchasing electric vehicles. With the launch of the Volvo EX30, a new era will begin where customers can experience premium pure electric SUVs at prices similar to internal combustion engine vehicles.”

Meanwhile, pre-orders for the Volvo EX30 will begin on the 28th at 1 PM through the official Volvo Cars Korea website, and by signing up for ‘Receive Latest News,’ customers can receive real-time updates on specific local specifications and pricing information.
