Torres EVX: The Game-Changer for Electric Taxis

The Torres EVX is emerging as a new cost-effective model in the taxi market.

Team Leader Yoo Ji-hyun of KG Mobility announced, “We have three customers who have already received the Torres EVX for personal taxi use.” He continued, “There have been continuous inquiries from individual taxi owners at various local dealerships.” It’s clear that taxi drivers are keeping a close eye on the Torres EVX.

The dimensions of the Torres EVX are 4,715×1,890×1,735mm, with a wheelbase of 2,680mm, offering ample space where rear seat occupants have around two fists worth of knee room. This makes it more than adequate for taxi service. The wheelbase is also 20mm longer than the competing Hyundai Kona EV, which measures 2,660mm.

The Torres EVX boasts an impressive output of 207 horsepower and a maximum torque of 34.6 kg·m, equipped with a 73.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, allowing for a range of up to 433 km. For instance, it can travel 405 km from the Meeting Square in Seoul to Haeundae Beach in Busan and still have 28 km left in its range. Additionally, the regenerative braking system of the Torres EVX does not cause discomfort to passengers, and the driver can choose to adjust it in three stages or use smart regenerative braking.

With a maximum range exceeding 400 km, the Torres EVX stands out as an optimal choice for individual taxi drivers looking to expand into electric taxi operations.

According to Kaizyu, 14,563 electric taxis were sold from October last year to September this year, with the Ioniq 5 dominating the market with 6,140 units sold, accounting for a staggering 42% of total sales in the electric taxi sector.

The Torres EVX has thrown its hat into the ring in an electric taxi market where cost-effectiveness is key, promising to be a practical choice. It will be interesting to see what changes it will bring to the taxi market in the future.
