The Launch of the Polestar 4: A New Era for Electric SUV Coupes

Polestar has announced that the production of its electric SUV coupe, the Polestar 4, has begun, and deliveries to customers in China are expected to start before the end of 2023. The official launch of the Polestar 4 in markets outside of China is planned for the first half of 2024, with deliveries expected to commence later that year.

The first Polestar 4 rolling off the assembly line is in a Snow color with the signature Swedish gold details from the performance pack. The Polestar 4 is the first vehicle produced at the Hangzhou Bay plant operated by Geely Holding, reportedly emitting the least greenhouse gases (CO2e) of all Polestar models, ranging from 19.4 tons to 21.4 tons.

The Hangzhou Bay plant played a crucial role in reducing the environmental impact of the Polestar 4. This facility operates with certified green electricity from hydroelectric power with international renewable energy I-REC certification and solar power generated by panels installed on the factory roof.

Additionally, Polestar avoids the use of chromium in chemical dissolution and reaction processes to reduce water pollution in the production process, while employing water-based paint to minimize the emissions of volatile organic compounds.

Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath stated, “Thanks to the tireless efforts of many colleagues at Polestar and our partners, we have been able to start the production of the Polestar 4. This model stands out not only for its outstanding design and performance but also as a remarkable SUV coupe in many respects.” He added, “The Polestar 4 is the first vehicle to apply a virtual rear window using a world-class digital rear camera, playing a crucial role in Polestar’s high-performance electric vehicle lineup. Meanwhile, Polestar is implementing a diversification strategy, leveraging the development and manufacturing expertise of key shareholders and partners, alongside an asset-light operating model.”

The Polestar 4 was first unveiled at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show, with plans to begin additional production in Busan, Korea, for domestic market sales and exports to North America starting in the second half of 2025.

Moreover, the Polestar 4 is the second SUV in the Polestar lineup, reflecting design elements first introduced in Polestar’s concept car. It is also the fastest model among the vehicles produced by Polestar to date. The Polestar 4 is positioned between the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3 in terms of size and price.
