Hyundai’s Asan Plant Achieves Platinum Zero Waste Certification: A Step Toward Sustainable Future

Hyundai Motor’s efforts towards ‘the right move for a sustainable future’ have borne fruit.

The Asan plant has achieved the highest platinum certification in the ‘Zero Waste to Landfill Certification’ from UL Solutions, becoming the first automotive manufacturer to do so.

The ‘Zero Waste to Landfill Certification’ is awarded to sites that manage waste through environmentally friendly and responsible methods such as energy production through incineration, reuse, recycling, and composting.

UL Solutions, which is responsible for the ‘Zero Waste to Landfill Certification,’ verifies through documentation and on-site reviews whether the waste storage and processing at the site meet the UL2799A standard.

Additionally, the actual recycling rate of the site is measured to assign ratings of platinum (actual recycling rate 100%), gold (actual recycling rate 95% to 99%), and silver (actual recycling rate 90% to 94%).

The Hyundai Asan plant actively engages in resource recycling, producing steel products from scrap generated during the automotive pressing process, and fully recycling waste sand and aluminum generated during engine production as raw materials for engine production.

A Hyundai representative stated, “We are delighted to achieve the highest grade in the ‘Zero Waste to Landfill Certification,’ aligning with Hyundai’s social responsibility message of ‘the right move for a sustainable future.’ Hyundai will continue its efforts for eco-friendly green management and resource recycling for waste.”
