Hyundai Mobis Unveils Quantum Dot Display Technology for Next-Gen Vehicles

Hyundai Mobis is venturing into the premium vehicle display sector with advanced technologies characterized by large screens, high definition, and sleek designs, targeting new orders from global automakers. The plan is to attack the next-generation vehicle display market with not only high specifications but also competitive pricing.

Hyundai Mobis has developed the world’s first vehicle QL Display (Quantum Dot and Local Dimming Display). The QL Display combines ‘Quantum Dot’ technology, which enhances color reproduction for a more realistic representation, with ‘Local Dimming’ technology that improves the contrast between bright and dark colors to deliver clear image quality. It maximizes screen brightness and clarity while allowing for a slim thickness tailored to customer demands.

The QL Display has gained attention as a next-generation premium product in the vehicle display market. While OLED screens are currently praised for their high performance, their expensive price makes them challenging for widespread application. In contrast, the QL Display is recognized for offering performance levels similar to OLED but with competitive pricing.

The QL Display, designed and developed in-house by Hyundai Mobis, elevates color reproduction and contrast levels to those of OLED. Additionally, it features a 27-inch large curved screen and a slim design of just 14.5mm, with the potential to go as slim as 10mm based on customer requirements. Currently, the global vehicle display market is experiencing a trend towards premiumization and large integrated structures, connecting the driver and passenger areas seamlessly. This trend necessitates products like QL Display with the capability of high-quality implementation and slim design for mass production.

Hyundai Mobis plans to actively seek new order opportunities in the premium vehicle display sector by promoting the newly developed QL Display. The strategy involves visiting global automaker clients in North America and Europe to present technical demonstrations and illustrate product competitiveness. Following the world’s first development of a rollable display last year, Hyundai Mobis is leveraging the introduction of QL Display to strengthen its competitiveness in next-generation display technologies.

Given the current trend among global automakers to integrate advanced displays with diverse functionalities to establish differentiated brand images, such technological capabilities can expand new business opportunities and provide a competitive market advantage. Hyundai Mobis plans to emphasize its display technology prowess at global mobility events like CES, aiming to secure a leadership position in the premium vehicle display market based on these advancements.
