KG Mobility’s Torres EVX Named October Car of the Month

The Korean Automobile Journalists Association has selected the KG Mobility Torres EVX as the Car of the Month for October 2023.

The Car of the Month is announced following an evaluation by the selection committee under the association, focusing on new models and partial changes released between the 1st and the end of the previous month. The evaluation criteria include five categories: ▲ Internal/External Design and Sensory Quality ▲ Safety and Convenience Features ▲ Power Performance ▲ Energy Efficiency and Greenhouse Gas Emissions ▲ Marketability and Purchase Intent.

Among the new models showcased last month, candidates for October’s Car of the Month included the Kia Ray EV, KG Mobility Torres EVX, Toyota Alphard, Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, and the Honda All-New CR-V Hybrid (listed in alphabetical order), with fierce competition leading to the Torres EVX securing a total score of 31 points (out of 50), ultimately being chosen as this month’s car.

The Torres EVX scored 7 points (out of 10) in the energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions category and received 6.3 points in both the internal/external design and sensory quality category and the marketability and purchase intent category.

Jung Ji-yeon, chair of the Car of the Year selection committee, stated, “The Torres EVX, an electric vehicle built on the Torres platform, showcases a design that brilliantly combines an off-roader concept with a forward-looking style. With its price falling in the mid-30 million won range after subsidies, it offers exceptional value and is equipped with various safety and convenience features, making it highly practical as well.”

The Korean Automobile Journalists Association has been selecting and announcing the Car of the Month since 2019, and last month, the honor went to the Hyundai All-New Santa Fe.

The association announces the results of the Car of the Month selection through its official website. Vehicles selected as the Car of the Month earn a free pass to enter the first round of the final selection without having to go through the preliminary evaluations for the Car of the Year in both the first and second halves of the year.

Additionally, the Korean Automobile Journalists Association comprises 55 member media outlets, including major newspapers, broadcasting stations, communication agencies, online platforms, and automotive specialized magazines, with around 200 journalists actively involved.

Founded in August 2010, the Korean Automobile Journalists Association aims to contribute to the development of the automotive industry, foster proper automotive culture, enhance the quality of automotive journalism, and promote mutual exchange among its members.

Every year, the association selects and announces the best car in South Korea as the ‘Car of the Year (COTY)’ and organizes various events such as symposiums and seminars that discuss automotive-related issues and explore alternatives, as well as technical tours and Automotive Nights.
