Genesis G80 and G80 Electrified Achieve Top Safety Ratings From IIHS

Genesis has been recognized by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for its outstanding performance in collision testing, with both the G80 and its electrified counterpart receiving the highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” (TSP+).

Following the earlier recognitions of the G90, GV60, GV70, GV70 Electrified model, and GV80 this year, the G80 and G80 Electrified further cemented the Genesis brand’s reputation for high-level crash safety and prevention capabilities.

This crash test result holds particular significance given that it meets the newly strengthened evaluation criteria established this year.

Founded in 1959, the IIHS is a nonprofit organization that comprehensively evaluates the crash stability and prevention capabilities of vehicles released in the U.S. market each year.

Vehicles that exhibit the highest safety are awarded the TSP+ grade, while those achieving a satisfactory performance receive the TSP grade.

This year, the evaluation standards for side collisions and pedestrian collision prevention have been raised, making it more challenging to achieve superior ratings.

The side collision tests now involve heavier objects colliding at faster speeds than before—approximately 1,497 kg to about 1,896 kg, with speeds increasing from approximately 49.8 km/h to about 59.5 km/h, resulting in an 82% increase in impact energy.

Additionally, the pedestrian collision prevention test has now been augmented with nighttime evaluations, and the headlight assessment must achieve an “acceptable” rating or higher across all trims for both TSP and TSP+ ratings.

To receive a TSP+ rating, vehicles must attain the highest level of “good” in all four crash safety categories: driver-side small overlap, passenger-side small overlap, front crash, and side crash.

Furthermore, they must also receive a rating of “superior” or higher in the front collision prevention test (for both vehicles and pedestrians), and an “acceptable” or higher in the headlight assessment across all trims.

Genesis equips all its models with various advanced driving safety assistance features, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), and Highway Driving Assist (HDA), ensuring top-notch safety for customers.

A spokesperson for Genesis stated, “Genesis prioritizes customer safety in all its vehicle developments, and the achievements of TSP+ ratings for the G80 and G80 Electrified models reflect the high safety levels of Genesis vehicles.”
