Toyota and Lexus Top Initial and Durability Quality Rankings in 2023 Consumer Insight Survey

Toyota Motor Korea announced on the 13th that Toyota ranked first in ‘initial quality (TGW-i)’ and Lexus ranked first in ‘durability quality (TGW-d)’ in the “2023 Annual Automotive Planning Survey” conducted by the automotive research agency Consumer Insight.

Consumer Insight conducts planning surveys annually among approximately 100,000 automotive consumers. Initial quality (TGW-i) is based on the number of quality-related problems experienced by consumers who purchased new cars from July 2022 to June 2023, measured over an average of six months (PPH: Problem Per Hundred). Meanwhile, durability quality (TGW-d) results are based on the number of problems experienced by consumers who have owned their vehicles for an average of three years post-purchase. Both surveys are highly trusted due to direct evaluations from vehicle owners.

In this quality survey, Toyota achieved a score of 65 PPH in initial quality (TGW-i), improving by 23 PPH from last year’s second place to claim the first position. Lexus, meanwhile, has remarkably maintained its top spot in durability quality (TGW-d) for eight consecutive years, scoring 97 PPH this year. In both categories, a lower score indicates fewer problems and superior quality competitiveness. This year’s industry average scores were 125 PPH for initial quality (TGW-i) and 244 PPH for durability quality (TGW-d).

Kang Dae-hwan, Executive Director of Toyota Motor Korea, expressed, “We are very pleased that both brands have achieved excellent results in this authoritative consumer quality assessment. We will continue to work alongside Toyota and Lexus dealers nationwide to earn customers’ trust and love through quality.”
