The Unveiling of the Ferrari 296 Challenge: A New Era in Racing

Ferrari will unveil the 296 Challenge at the Pre-event for Finali Mondiali, taking place at the Mugello Circuit from October 24 to 30.

The 296 Challenge incorporates numerous new features based on the Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo, showcasing an innovative design in many respects. This vehicle is set to debut in the 2024 season’s European and North American series.

The new 296 Challenge can be seen as a collection of innovative philosophies, having performed extensive work on road cars to ensure specifications optimized for track racing. The 296 Challenge offers solutions that are almost identical to what debuted with the 296 GT3 this season. Additionally, it is expected to redefine the performance characteristics and standards of the Ferrari one-make series in terms of performance and lap consistency during races.

Derived from the 296 GTB, the 296 Challenge has undergone significant changes in terms of engine, aerodynamics, and vehicle dynamics for maximum performance on the track. This new model is the first in championship history to be powered by a 120-degree V6. Like the 296 GT3, it features a 2,992cc twin-turbo engine, excluding hybrid components. This engine delivers a peak output of 700 hp (cv) and 740 Nm of maximum torque. As a result, the 296 Challenge sets a new output record in its segment with 234 hp per liter.

The aerodynamics package of the 296 Challenge provides unprecedented downforce figures in the history of the one-make series, ensuring maximum efficiency under all conditions. Indeed, when the spoiler is tilted to its maximum angle, the 296 Challenge generates over 870 kg of downforce at 250 km/h.

This vehicle features ABS EVO for the first time in the track version. The ABS EVO track has been adapted from the innovative system first introduced in the 296 GTB to suit the characteristics of this vehicle. Moreover, the addition of new CCM-R PLUS brake discs has improved both braking performance and consistency, while the Pirelli 19-inch tires developed specifically for the 296 Challenge significantly contribute to the vehicle’s handling and performance.
