Creating Safe Passage: Mercedes-Benz Volunteers Paint Murals in School Zones

The Mercedes-Benz Social Contribution Committee announced on the 27th that it has conducted a mural painting volunteer activity to create a safe walking route for children in school zones in collaboration with the children’s welfare foundation.

The location of this volunteer activity was in front of Busan Sajik Elementary School (7, Soemiro 81beon-gil, Dongnae-gu, Busan), where a five-lane road passes by. This area has required careful attention from drivers. Beautiful murals conveying traffic safety messages such as ‘Slow down under 30 km/h in school zones’ and ‘Stop at crosswalks’ were completed over a total length of approximately 150 meters of the school’s wall. This aims to create a safe school zone environment, allowing drivers to recognize the children’s protection area from a distance.

Over 50 employees from Star Automotive and Hansung Motors, the official dealers of Mercedes-Benz, directly participated in this mural project. The completed murals not only aim to increase drivers’ awareness of traffic laws but are also expected to improve the walking environment for children with the visually enhanced wall.

Chairman Yoo Jae-jin of the Mercedes-Benz Social Contribution Committee attended the activity and said, “I hope the murals created by Mercedes-Benz employees will serve as a catalyst for safer traffic environments for both children and drivers.” He also mentioned, “We will continue to carry out sincere social contribution activities aimed at regional coexistence and the protection of vulnerable road users.”

Since 2017, the mural painting volunteer activity ‘Safe School Walls’ has been part of the ‘Mercedes-Benz All Together’ initiative, selecting areas that need improvement each year through employee recommendations. Employees participate directly in painting the walls. Over the past six years, the murals created under this initiative now reach nine locations, including Sajik Elementary School, located in Seoul and Busan, contributing to increasing awareness among drivers and child pedestrians, and creating safe and enjoyable walking routes for school commutes.
