Sales Slump in the Domestic Auto Industry: A Look at August’s Performance

Due to a lack of production days caused by the holiday, the sales of five domestic car manufacturers have dropped sharply. In August, the five domestic car companies recorded sales of 106,591 units, a decrease of 7.2% compared to 114,901 units in the previous month.

Hyundai sold 46,375 units, a slight decline of 1.4% compared to 47,048 units in the previous month. The best-selling model, the Grandeur, saw a minor increase, selling 8,820 units compared to 8,531 units the prior month, reflecting a 3.4% rise. The Porter recorded 5,987 units sold, which represents a significant drop of 30.9% from 8,670 units in the previous month. The Avante’s sales increased by 18%, with 4,758 units sold compared to 4,002 units last month. The new Santa Fe (MX5) sold 550 units.

Genesis recorded 9,180 units, down 12.2% from 10,455 units in the previous month. The GV70 sold 2,927 units, a decrease of 14.3% compared to 3,415 units last month, while the G80 dropped 10.1%, selling 2,923 units compared to 3,253 units the previous month. The GV80 also saw sales down by 10.9%, with 1,692 units sold compared to 1,900 units in the last month.

Kia displayed a sales volume of 42,334 units, which is a decline of 10.9% from 47,507 units the previous month. The Sorento enjoyed strong sales with 7,176 units sold, a notable increase of 26.4% compared to 5,678 units the prior month. The Sportage experienced a drop, with 5,210 units sold, down by 21% from 6,625 units last month. The Carnival had sales of 4,937 units, reflecting a decline of 19.2% from the previous month’s 6,109 units.

KG Mobility recorded 3,903 units sold, down 3.5% from the previous month’s 4,043 units. The Torres reached sales of 1,592 units, an increase of 10.3% from 1,443 units last month. The Rexton Sports saw a decrease, selling 1,310 units compared to 1,459 units prior, a reduction of 10.2%. The Tivoli experienced a decline, with 639 units sold, down 21% from 815 units last month.

General Motors reported sales of 3,297 units, down 20.4% from the previous month’s 4,143 units. The Trax Crossover sold 2,129 units, reflecting a decrease of 24.2% compared to 2,807 units last month. The Trailblazer sold 674 units, a slight dip of 2.9% from 694 units last month. The Bolt EUV recorded 209 units sold, down 8.7% from 229 units the previous month.

Renault Korea sold 1,502 units, which is an 11.9% decrease from last month’s 1,705 units. The QM6 recorded 685 units, reflecting a drop of 13.5% from 792 units last month. The XM3 saw a sales decline of 10.7% with 629 units sold compared to 704 units last month. The SM6 recorded a minor drop to 188 units sold, down 7.4% from 203 units in the previous month.
