Hyundai’s Resource-Circulating Hydrogen Production Package Wins Best Product Award at H2 MEET 2023

Hyundai Motor Group’s ‘Resource-Circulating Hydrogen Production Package’ has been selected as the top product in the hydrogen industry by the media at ‘H2 MEET 2023’.

The Korea Automobile Journalists Association announced the results of the ‘H2 MEET Best Product Media Awards’, co-hosted with the H2 MEET Organizing Committee, on the 20th.

The award was determined by journalists from 55 media outlets affiliated with the Korea Automobile Journalists Association, who visited the world’s largest hydrogen industry exhibition, ‘H2 MEET 2023’, held at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province from the 13th to the 15th. They evaluated all exhibited products and technologies, considering audience responsiveness, market potential, and technological innovation before voting to select outstanding products.

As a result, the winner for Best Pick was Hyundai Motor Group’s ‘Resource-Circulating Hydrogen Production Package’, while the Excellent Pick was awarded to POSCO E&C’s ‘Green Hydrogen and Blue Hydrogen Production Plant’, along with Samjung E&C’s ‘Hydrogen Gas Control System’.

Hyundai’s ‘Resource-Circulating Hydrogen Production Package’, selected as the Best Pick, has been assembled as a ‘hydrogen industry tool’ for the group’s subsidiaries to realize their vision for a hydrogen ecosystem.

When Hyundai’s ‘Xcient Hydrogen Electric Truck’ collects waste, Hyundai Construction’s ‘Waste Resource Hydrogen Production Package’ produces bio gas, and Hyundai Rotem’s ‘High Green 300’ extracts high-purity hydrogen from the produced bio gas, creating an organically interconnected technology within the hydrogen industry ecosystem, which garnered significant praise from the media.

The Excellent Pick awarded to POSCO E&C’s ‘Green Hydrogen and Blue Hydrogen Production Plant’ aligns with POSCO Group’s goal of producing 7 million tons of hydrogen by 2050. POSCO E&C focuses on diversifying its business by leveraging its achievements in carbon dioxide capture demonstration projects and the construction of natural gas hydrogen extraction facilities within Pohang and Gwangyang steelworks.

This exhibition featured a Hydrogen Plant EPC Zone showcasing POSCO E&C’s EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) capabilities, effectively illustrating the features of green hydrogen and blue hydrogen production plants through 3D videos and models.

Samjung E&C’s ‘Hydrogen Gas Control System’, which was also selected as Excellent Pick alongside POSCO E&C, is a core facility usable throughout the entire hydrogen industry process, including hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and utilization. Samjung E&C developed an ultra-high-pressure hydrogen gas control system for hydrogen refueling stations based on its expertise in developing existing hydrogen cooling systems.

The hydrogen refueling stations, handling ultra-high-pressure hydrogen gas at 700 Bar to 850 Bar, focus sharply on the reliability and safety of components applied in the control panels. Samjung E&C’s hydrogen gas control system applies new technology, specifically a block header component, significantly reducing gas leak points by over 80%, earning praise from the media for its effectiveness and safety.

Organizing Committee Chairman Kang Nam-hoon stated, “For the hydrogen industry, which is still in its growth stage, to continue developing, it is essential for innovative products and technologies to emerge in hydrogen production, storage and transportation, and utilization, gain public attention, and establish a virtuous cycle that expands technology into the entire ecological industrial sector. I hope this Best Product Media Award, held in partnership with the reputable Korea Automobile Journalists Association, will provide new business opportunities for award-winning companies and inspire technical advancements in other companies.”

Meanwhile, the ‘H2 MEET 2023’ exhibition, held at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province from September 13 to 15, attracted over 32,000 visitors and featured participation from 303 companies and organizations across 18 countries. This year’s event received positive feedback for solidifying the role of a global hydrogen industry cooperation platform through international conferences and country days that focused on technology and networking, providing attendees with insights into global hydrogen industry trends and new business opportunities.

Next year’s ‘H2 MEET 2024’ will take place from September 25 to 27, 2024, at KINTEX, where over 80 companies have already completed their pre-registration.
