Empowering the Next Generation: Mercedes-Benz’s Green Education Initiative for Kids

The Mercedes-Benz Community Service Committee successfully completed the “GreenPlusKids” environmental education program aimed at elementary school students, benefiting over 10,000 children this year in collaboration with the Children and Future Foundation.

“GreenPlusKids” is a hands-on program designed for children to understand the severity of climate change and learn practical ways to achieve carbon neutrality. This year, the program garnered over 10,000 applicants during its recruitment period in March, and conducted educational activities from April to August at 427 social welfare institutions and elementary schools across the country. As of this year, the total number of students educated since 2021 has reached approximately 30,000.

The “GreenPlusKids” program consists of two 90-minute sessions focused on carbon neutrality and climate action, featuring creative play kits that encourage storytelling and village-building, an activity workbook with advanced learning content, upcycling plogging bags, and plant-growing kits. Through these various educational kits and activities tailored to children, participating students learned how to easily implement environmental protection and carbon neutrality in their daily lives.

Play-learning kits that simplify the concept of carbon neutrality and promote its values through practical experiences were provided, each emphasizing the reduction of unnecessary packaging to align with eco-friendly values and waste reduction efforts.

Notably, starting this year, additional educational materials and courses for upper-grade elementary school students were introduced, expanding the program’s reach beyond preschoolers and lower-grade elementary students, allowing a greater range of ages to experience carbon neutrality education.

Stephan Albrecht, a committee member of Mercedes-Benz’s Community Service Committee, stated, “Mercedes-Benz Korea is committed to a sustainable future for the automotive industry while fulfilling its social responsibilities, including continuous support for children’s environmental education. We hope that through this education, children, who are the future generation’s leaders, will develop an interest in carbon neutrality and climate change and engage in eco-friendly activities in their daily lives.”

Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Benz Community Service Committee plans to actively continue its GreenPlus campaign in various online and offline areas in the second half of this year, including special classes for GreenPlusKids, environmental camps for GreenPlusKids Villages, employee plogging events, and social media campaigns to raise climate crisis awareness.
